Vegan turned out to mean vegetarian

Checked menu for ingredients, and asked staff to confirm that the burger was vegan. In spite of insurances the burger had creme fraiche dressing in it (confirmed by the staff when asked directly).

Further, they deep fry everything in the same fryer.

Cons: Allergen confusion, Incorrect labeling of ingredients

Salad and Roasted Potatoes

Sometimes all you want is a simple meal and not worry about dairy and eggs. I ordered a side salad (from the steak menu) and a side of roasted potatoes from the sides menu — well prepared and satisfying.

All bread contains dairy!

Food is good, but like it's nearby sister eatery, Pascucci, all bread products, including the gluten-free version, contains dairy.

good food good staff good atmosphere

I visited Nuuk in February 2026.
Cafe Esmeralda is in the main street so easy to find, very popular. English language menu, some vegan options. I had the baguette which was loaded with beetroot hummus, practically a whole avocado, greens and salad. Delicious and filling. The cafe had a good buzz with friendly staff, everyone spoke English, payment with Visa fine (no extra charge). There is a taxi rank nearby, and bus stops.
And the Brusgeni supermarket is over the road, so I got oat milk and some vegan food for my (mainly) self catering week in Nuuk.
I ate at the cafe 3 times. The prices seemed comparable to London vegan eats.

Pros: Helpful staff, advice on What to do in Nuuk in Feb, The food, fresh & tasty, Toilets very clean

Delicious food and several vegan options!

There are several vegan options on the menu. Generous portions and everything that I have tried there has been delicious. Staff friendly and helpful. Warmly recommend for vegans in Nuuk.

Good vegetarian/vegan menu section, nice atmosphere

I had the veggie burger with sweet potato fries and enjoyed it! The veggie burger had hummus and avocado on it. I also had a yummy juice. Went on a Tuesday night at the place was really busy, with a nice atmosphere. I’ve travelled a lot in the Arctic and am used to little or no vegan options, so I was impressed with this place!

Pros: Good veg selection , Good juice selection , Ingredients listed on the menu

Cons: Expensive (but reasonable by Arctic standards)

One of the only places in Nuuk to eat vegetarian/vegan food

The place looks like a regular nondescript cafe so I was surprised to find on their Facebook page a menu that includes a vegetarian section. The menu is online only in Danish, though, but English version of the menu is available at the restaurant. I had a vegetarian sandwich and the portion was large and filling. I'm sure that Cafe Esmeralda can offer also vegan dishes. Thus, this seems to be the only restaurant in Nuuk suitable for vegetarians/vegans.
