Expected Better; Decent Vegan Options. - Edit
I was really excited to dine at the 1884 in the Management Centre, but left feeling disappointed. I was attending an all-day event on site, and we booked in for lunch as a large group in the restaurant. The service wasn't great as there was only one young lad taking all our drink orders (13 of us), and he seemed to be struggling a bit. I had preordered going for the vegan version of the Coconut and Parsnip Soup and the Chestnut and Cranberry Strudel as the main. The main was marked as vegan, but the menu stated all mains came with Honey Roasted Parsnips, so I specifically asked for my main to come without those.
Read moreWhen the soup was served the young lad didn't state which was vegan, probably was not told by the kitchen, so he had to go back to find out which was the vegan soup (the difference being it was served with vegan butter). The main was more straightforward, but my parsnips were not substituted for any additional veg, and I literally had 3 pieces of coin sized carrots on my plate. A big dish of extra veg came a good 10 minutes after we started eating, by which point a couple or people had already finished their meals.
The food itself was just okay. Bland soup and roast potatoes, but the kale and strudel were really nice. The 1884s menu changes seasonally and they always have labelled vegan options. Their current menu includes Slow Roasted Butternut Squash and Sweet Potato Salad, Slow Roasted Cauliflower and Butterbean Korma, Vegan Margarita Pizza, Plant Based Moving Mountain Cheese Burger and Mixed Berried Soaked in Gin. Bangor doesn't have a massive amount of vegan options, so maybe vegans visiting in the future will have a better experience.
Pros: Labelled Vegan Options, Food Nicely Presented, Good Views and Art in Restaurant
Cons: Food Nothing Special, More Staff and Organisation Required
