Requires Wine Bottle Purchase

Came for a fancy NYE dinner out with a group of sober women, which included myself and another vegan. There is nothing vegan on the menu, but based on the previous review we thought it would be a good place for us to go with a mixed crowd. There are two main dishes that the chef said they could veganize so we were going to get them both to share. We weren’t aware of this wine policy until after we ordered, and when we explained that we don’t drink and would not be ordering a bottle of wine, they would not serve us. We even offered to pay a service charge to make up for the difference. I found it very peculiar that they would turn away the business on a group of 7 who had a reservation on a holiday just bc of wine. I kinda think it had more to do with the vegan request, even though we let them know when making the reservation that there would be vegans in the group. I wouldn’t call this place vegan friendly but maybe on a normal day they would be more accommodating. But idk, because I definitely won’t be back.

outstanding veg-friendly option

Four stars only b/c Happy Cow policy reserves that for vegan only options. Buto and the chef were outstanding. He happily accommodated me (vegan, no mushrooms) and I enjoyed three delicious, satisfying vegan courses (grilled watermelon salad, fried sweet corn, mala noodles). The chef chatted with us a bit and I learned he had spent time training in temple cuisine with Jeong Kwan (from Netflix's Chef's Table). I can't recommend Buto highly enough.

Pros: vibe (cool but not at all pretentious), open, informed, and informative chef/owner, easy to reserve thru instagram (noted diet there)
