Delicious, numerous vegan options! - Edit
Stopped here on a road trip and I was so impressed! The sesame “chicken” was delicious, in addition to the scallion pancakes and fried veggie dumplings. I would absolutely eat here again. I wish I lived closer!

Delicious vegan options - Edit
As always, grateful for happy cow to have found this spot during a stay in West Hartford. The vegan orange chicken was out of this world, and the vegetable fried rice (without egg) and the vegetable lo mein were both really fresh and flavorful. Super sweet staff.

Exceptional Service - Edit
Everything was great here. There aren’t many fully vegan places in the Hartford area and there are none in West Hartford. Black Bamboo is a smaller place with only a few seats and tables but they did a tonne of carryout orders while we were there. The food we had was great and the portions were big. Items are clearly labeled and the servers very knowledgeable.

Great vegan options, but failed to accommodate other dietary restrictions - Edit
The selections for vegan food are very inclusive! You can order almost anything on the menu veganized. We ordered the Kung po tofu, vegan bamsizzle, and a side of steamed broccoli. Broccoli was fine but very underdone.
Read moreI have an allergy to onion and garlic, and I made that clear when I was ordering the Kung po tofu. They added an allergy note for the kitchen. Since everything there is made to order, they assured me that it wouldn't be a problem to exclude all onion and garlic from the dish. As I was eating it, I found many small pieces of onion in my dish, very disappointing. I brought it to their attention, and they apologized and said it was a mistake in the kitchen. They immediately gave me a refund for all the food we ordered.
Pros: Vegan selection, Quick service
Cons: Didn't accommodate allergies

More misses than hits - Edit
We were so excited to try this place after the rave reviews, but were sorely disappointed.
Read moreWe tried the general tso's tofu, orange chicken, BBQ spare ribs, Szechuan eggplant, and vegetable chow fun.
General tso's tofu is probably one of my favorite meals, and while the texture of the tofu was perfect, the sauce wasn't up to par. Completely devoid of any flavor and I was shocked at how bland it was. It was just... Nothing. They took perfectly crisp tofu and slathered it in a gelatinous sauce that tasted like nothing.
BBQ spare ribs were great, and a friend of mine who still eats meat commented that they were better than the real pork version. A+ there.
Orange chicken was good. Absolutely loved the texture of the chicken but the sauce was lacking like the general tso's. But not nearly as bland.
Szechuan eggplant had no spice, and again, the flavor was lackluster and disappointing.
Needless to say the veggie chow fun has the same review as the eggplant. We asked for it to be spicy and I feel like they really cater to American's palates for spice because none of the food was spicy. My friend who can't tolerate more than a few red pepper flakes didn't think the food was spicy either.
The quality of the food just wasn't worth the hefty price tag.
Pros: Vegan meats, Friendly staff
Cons: Expensive, Lacking flavor/seasoning

Vegan ribs? Yes! - Edit
Definitely holds its own with the best vegan Chinese we've had. If we lived near here this would be a go-to. Had the vegan bbq ribs and fried rice, it was great.

I went here for the first time today. I was a little surprised by the pricetag, but definitely worth it. I had to stop myself from buying another entree to go lol

More than enough - Edit
While you could come back a dozen times and not try everything they offer for vegans, the varied appetizers alone are plenty of food to satisfy. Go with the bamsizzle for a crowd-pleaser (and you’ll need a crowd to eat it all).

Delicious!!!! A must try restaurant - Edit
We had the vegan ribs, General Tsos vegan chicken, and Szechuan eggplant. I wish I lived closer to this place! We’re from nyc and we know good Chinese food, this restaurant exceeded our expectations! Everything was delicious, and wonderfully spiced. We were greeted by Sunny the owner, and his name matches his personality. Wonderful no-frills meal where all the energy went into the food. Our favorite was the eggplant!

VEGAN BBQ SPARE RIBS = LIFE CHANGING - Edit
In my opinion this is the best vegan Chinese food you can get in CT!!
Read moreI wish I could give this place a 5 star rating (but since it isn’t a fully vegetarian/ vegan I can’t)
This food is worth the 40 minute drive every single time!
Hands down the best Chinese food I have ever had- as a vegan and before that!!!! Their vegan veggie lo mein is always so stellar!
But the star of the show for their vegan options is the vegan bbq spare ribs. OH MY GOD.
If I could recommend one thing from Black Bamboo... it’s the vegan ribs 🤤
I literally crave them at least once a week.
My parents have become mostly plant-based since my sister and I went vegan. I wanna add that my dad, a once huge meat lover, says these are his favorite vegan thing and that they are better than the real thing🌱
I’ve never been disappointed from anything I have tried from Black Bamboo! I love their vegan/vegetarian options! Such a great place.
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Quick take out, BEST VEGAN BBQ RIBS

Best vegan Chinese around! - Edit
Black Bamboo is my go to Chinese restaurant in the Hartford area. Their veggie fried rice is vegan as is, they do not add egg to it. You have to try their vegan ribs and chicken! Simply delicious. The only negative I can think of is that they’re so busy! Sometimes the phone lines are so backed up I cannot get through to place my order. Thankfully they’ve recently added online ordering.

I am so happy to have found this place! I will be back, it was lunchtime on a Friday and everything was fast even though there were tons of takeout orders being processed. Very friendly staff and a clean and welcoming environment. Not alot of seating, but worth the risk of having to wait for a table! Also the music was On Point!

This place is my go to for quick weeknight food when I’m too tired to cook. I would give them five stars if I could. Anyone who tries to call them on a Friday knows they are the busiest place around and for good reason. Try the vegan bbq spare ribs or general tso tofu or sesame tofu. Or literally anything.

Get the barbecue spare ribs! - Edit
We have come here numerous times and have tried almost all of the items on their vegetarian menu (which is a separate menu). They have tons of vegetable dishes as well as typical American Chinese dishes with faux meets. Without a doubt the barbecue spare ribs are the best. They are so amazing you may questions whether or not they are vegan. The place is very clean, but also small with only a few tables, it is ideal for takeout but you can certainly eat in the restaurant. They have free hot tea in the dining room. The staff have always been very nice and accommodating.
