Gorgeous Cakes

What a great find! We visited the Lakes and didn’t expect to find a fully vegan bakery sadly it was on our way home so we popped in for a take-away cake so we didn’t miss out. The staff were so friendly. It was a cute little shop and I felt right at home there.

Speciality coffee and plant-based pastries and cakes

Very much open and in business. This is a speciality coffee roaster with a good selection of coffee with a medium roast profile as well as exclusively vegan pastries and cakes. We weren't super excited about the almond croissant, which was quite heavy, and the cinnamon bun was cold and heavy too. Maybe would benefit from being reheated. The advice for selecting coffee was helpful, so it's worth going for the coffee.

Pros: Good advice for selecting coffee, Friendly owner

Cons: Pastries were cold and heavy and could be reheated

Wow cake options!

Great vegan cake options. The caramel chocolate slice I had was insane and very reasonably priced. The atmosphere is a little odd as it's more of a shop than a cafe and service was adequate but nothing to write home about. Would recommend.

Pros: Lovely vegan cake

Cons: Shop atmosphere, not overly welcoming

New coffee shop with ethics at its core

Now within Podda and Wren coffee shop. Called in over Christmas when there were takeaway only. Prominantly located and great cakes. Should be refurbished and opened for sitting in now.

Went back and family sat for tea and cake. Very friendly owners.
Got more takeawy cake too. And pies!

Nov 2023 - found a mobile coffee van at Kendal Mountain Festival. Very good coffee and cake!

Dec 2023 - still great with more decoration and seats. A venue with ethics at its core: not a drop of dairy on site and responsible sourcing of coffee, tea and chocolate.

Pros: Cakes!, Not Pork Pies!, Responsible sourcing

Best coffee and cake around

Podda and Wren are fairly new to Kendal, but well established arou d Windermere as Fellside Coffee and Bannila Bakery. Atmosphere inside is fantastic, with a great range of cakes and coffee. Jonathan makes the best flat whites ever and Lauras cakes could win competitions!

With the addition of Ash and now roasting coffee on site, Podda and Wren is the place to be!

Pros: Completely vegan, Great cakes , Great coffee, roasted on site

Pizza Rolls are out of this world!

Holy Sh1tb@lls this place is the best. The pizza rolls and cinnamon buns are so so good, the cookies are huge and the stones are just *chefs kiss*

Don't ask me how I know all this from one visit 😂😂🙈

FYI, it's moving to Kendal next month sometime.

Pros: 100% Vegan, Lots of choice

Brilliant little place

Dropped in and immediately loved the place. The girls are very friendly and the cakes are delicious. I couldn’t help but grab three of the cinnamon rolls, one Bakewell cake and a jammy dodger cake to bring home. All taste excellent. The quality of the coffee is also very high. Couldn’t recommend more.

Pros: Purely vegan, All cakes and coffee are excellent, Friendly staff

Just Love This Place

Banilla Bakery offers a great selection of vegan cakes, cookies, bread, scones, savouries and fantastic coffee and tea.

The choice of cakes is huge so it's difficult to choose but are all homemade by owner Laura. We've had lime drizzle cake, biscoff cookies, cinnamon rolls, peanut butter cookies, carrot & pecan muffin, Mac n cheese, homemade focaccia sandwich with roast vegetables, pesto & cheese. All absolutely delicious.

A visit to the Lakes wouldn't be the same without a visit to Banilla Bakery. Highly recommended.

Lived up to my hopes

I had been looking forward to visiting this 100% vegan bakery for a while and it didn't disappoint.
I had a focaccia sandwich and a chocolate orange cookie. Both were delicious and the cookie was massive.
The brownies and mince pies looked extremely tempting too - must fit in another visit soon.

CAKE!

Sells all sorts of items - soups, pasties, ciabatta, hot drinks like coffees and fancy hot chocolate, and LOTS OF CAKE!

So far I’ve had a cinnamon bun (ok I’ve had two), an autumn slice, a blueberry and vanilla scone, and I’ve had a bite of the carrot cake. All delicious.

I’m sad I’m not going to be in Lakes for a while as I’d like to try much more of what Banilla has to offer.

Really friendly staff too. It’s a nice place.

Great brownies and blondies!

Lovely brownies and blondies that we had whilst visiting Kendal. The friendly owner can deliver locally for free or can be picked up. Also great that they did not contain nuts or coconut oil to which my son is intolerant (but not severely allergic). Most of all tasted great and all vegan for a wonderful treat!

Pros: All vegan, taste great, Good selection without nuts or coconut oil

Cons: A little pricy but freshly made and nicely packed
