The best curry I’ve ever tasted - Edit
Just called in with my friend for a meal before the theatre, never been before, the staff were amazing and genuinely polite in their job, the menu had lots of Vegan choices, but the menu wasn’t vast, we ordered the Kolkata authentic curry both rice and gunpowder fries - it was delicious They are planning on going Totally vegan & Gluten Free in 2025 - I’ll be visiting again 5 ⭐️ years

I always appreciate a restaurant that has a whole separate vegan menu because it feels like they’ve really put a decent menu together and babuls doesn’t disappoint. The food and cocktails are so good!

Plenty to choose from, friendly service. I liked the drinks ordering from a tablet on the table. You can also request food ordering or a bill from this.

Vegan options currently include small plates, chaat, curries, loaded fries and side dishes. The tablet on the table has the vegan drinks clearly labelled.
Update 2024: The above still stands for evening service. I recently came in during the day. I couldn't see any vegan breakfast options. The brunch options are quite limited. Be careful when ordering- there's a buddha bowl labelled vegan which comes with 'tikka bites' as an option. The tikka bites are chicken but the menu doesn't make it clear- it is meat, not a vegan alterative. The soft drinks prices are quite steep- we ordered two soft drinks thinking for the price they would be pints as the menu doesn't specify- they were about 250ml for £2.50-£3. You can order free tap water on the tablet, however.

Not your typical Indian restaurant experience - Edit
Babul's is not your typical Indian restaurant experience. The menu is modern, as is the decor, whilst the ambience is.... lively, even pre-5pm! We shared two tadka dhals, mumbai shakarkand, bang bang broccoli and charred baby baingain, with boiled and pilau rice, fries and poppadoms. All of the dishes were well spiced with a nice depth of flavour, with the charred baby baingain and tadka dhal, particularly impressive. I would like to see the menu expanded though. Staff were friendly and our experience was enjoyable.

Where Pizza Express once stood is the Instagram paradise of Babuls. Not that I do that nonsense but you can tell some of the clientele certainly do. Order drinks from a tablet at your table, but for food you need to speak to a real human. The popadoms and pickles were good. I had a veg madras which was hotter than expected but well within my tolerances and bizarrely loaded with huge chunks al dente cauliflower & broccoli. We also shared some okra fries which were delicious and a portion of boiled rice. Not a typical Indian restaurant experience but certainly one for the jodrells.
