Full To The Brim! - Edit
We visited B-13 a few times on our recent visit to Madrid and every time was excellent!
Read moreThis place is a no frills, fast food, dive bar kind of vibe. And I don't mean any of that in a negative way!
They offer awesome, filling food with great quality and low price.
They have a pretty big menu of typical junk food turned vegan but unlike your normal junk food places, these guys produce top quality food.
We experienced two different staff rotas on our visits and each time we were treated well and looked after, even though we don't speak much Spanish.
The chicken burgers are tasty, crunchy and so filling. A burger, fries and a beer set me up for hours and I'm a pretty big dude.
I was going to try a cake or a shake but after the burger, I was full to the brim lol.
My wife ordered the Seitan sandwich, which came up in a crusty baguette type bread with the "meat" covered in a thick savory sauce. I'm not a fan of Seitan but she said it was amazing and was more than she could actually eat.
There are a few things to be aware of here.
1) it get MEGA busy. If you don't like noisy, cramped and kinda gloomy places, you wont like B-13. They do takeaway though so go anyway and take it out. Tables are not easy to get but well worth it when you do.
2) When people say about the hookers on the street outside, they're not joking. This little section of the city is like the red light district, prostitutes up and down the street. Unlike other cities though, they do not harass you. I watched single guys walk along here and not get spoken to.
I was expecting a lot of invites, harassment and problems but I was pleasantly surprised.
The food and atmosphere, to me at least, is worth the walk down "hooker alley". The staff work their butts off in here and they all seem dedicated to promoting vegan food.
I don't think any meal we had came to more than 20 euro and was much higher quality and much better prepared than anything BK could offer.
Its an honest, no nonsense, good food hangout!
Pros: Awesome food and quality, Seriusly low price, Friendly, hardworking staff
Cons: Gets VERY busy

La utopía vegana madrileña - Edit
This is my new favourite in Madrid. I think it represents really well what the capital of bars is all about; Great, tasty and inexpensive food in good company.

Good if you are looking for fast food - Edit
The bacon tasted scarily like how I remember real bacon although in my opinion, it has a better texture. I really enjoyed the calamari. I asked for a wedge of lemon and mayonnaise and it was great. Quite cheap fast food

Really tasty and cheap food. I loved the sandwiches, specially the Spanish omelette. The local is a bit small so we had to stay standing but except that, was all fantastic.

Good, inexpensive and crowded - Edit
I went there during lunch hours and I've tried double chicken burger and durum kebab. The burger was delicious but seitan in the durum kebab was mushy and the taste wasn't the best. The food is rather cheap and the portions are big and the location is also very good. If you want to eat on a budget and don't mind the crowds (some people had to wait for an empty table) then I definitely recommend!
Read moreI also appreciated all the trans grafitti in toilets!
Pros: fully vegan, Good location , low prices
Cons: not many places to sit, seitan could be better

Inexpensive but uninspring - Edit
My wife and went here during the lunch hour. It was packed and there was no place to sit. The person who takes orders seemed stressed and was impatient and unfriendly. He admonished us for standing at the bar while asking some questions of him, saying that we needed to keep the area clear. When another couple offered to share the table with us, we informed him that we would be taking a seat there and he seemed irritated (since maybe we were jumping ahead of someone else who was waiting). My wife and I had patatas bravas, which were good, but no better than at most bars in Madrid. Her tortilla de patata didn't have much flavor and although I ordered a seitan burger, the "burger" had the consistency of mashed potatoes, not solid like one would expect from seitan. The noise level was unbearable, and every time someone from an adjacent table wanted to get out, they had to climb over their table or I had to get up and move (not easy while eating a mushy vegan burger that was leaking everywhere). There were some cool political things on the walls, and it's great to see a vegan place so popular, but overall we were happy to leave such a stressful environment. The prices were very inexpensive, and portions big, so that may be a positive for some.

One of my favourites in all Madrid - Edit
Just as they say in the menu, b13 is a bar, not a fancy restaurant but more of a friendly place to have great cheap fast food. The staff is great. We go often, they already know us and they are really nice to us (and everyone). If they don't seem to be keeping an eye on everyone at the bar is because they are really busy, the bar is always full with lots of people waiting, (as it is a little small but totally worth the wait in my opinion) so they don't usually have time to offer their full attention. But that's ok with me, honestly.

Can you say AMAZING? - Edit
This was my favorite place I’ve ever eaten at. The food was exactly what I wanted—Madrid bad food that was full of flavor and made me feel like I wasn’t missing out on anything because it was just so amazing. My husband, who’s from Madrid and loves the food there, said it was spot on and just as delicious without any of the animal products. I am just dreaming of the next time I’m going to get to visit! The prices were great, the atmosphere was fun, but it was a pretty small place (not unusual for the city, so it was fine). Highly recommend doing the small plates/tapas and getting to try those rather than a main dish.
