Delicious tapas through an Arab-Andalusian lens

Al-Andalus reimagines tapas through an Arab-Andalusian lens, and the results are delicious.

The entire menu is 100% vegan, with gluten, nut, and sesame options clearly labeled. We opted for the $65 prix fixe, which is an absolute feast of soulful, vegetable-forward small plates. The shawarma mushroom, crispy patatas bravas, and warm, pillowy breads were absolute standouts. Portions are so generous that we had to start packing courses to-go halfway through the meal because there was just no more room!

Chef Amira Gharib helmed Soda Club, and she brings that same incredible attention to detail and flavor here. Al-Andalus is definitely one to watch. Service is warm and friendly, with dishes arriving family-style as they’re ready. Given the intimate setting and mid-range price point, it’s a great spot for a fun date night or a lively small group outing. Happy hour features $10 drinks. Definitely make a reservation. And come hungry.

Take your time

This is definitely an experience to be savored slowly: an elegant, intimate tapas bar that brings your dishes out one at a time. Our favorites were the simit (Turkish sesame bread) with vegan feta; butter bean crustini; koshari pie with chickpeas and lentils; and grilled leeks with date vinaigrette. Service was solicitous and they were attentive to food sensitivities.

Amazing

My wife and I ordered the fixed menu ($65 per person for 10 tapas, including 2 desserts). The food was a delicious mix of Spanish and north African flavors. The atmosphere was great, the wait staff friendly, and the pace the food came out made it feel almost like a fine dining experience.

Pros: Delicious food, Good drinks, Amazing atmosphere

Great tapas experience

Great ambience, great food and the friendliest staff makes this place one of the best places in NYC that you should visit. We had the sangria and an orange wine. Sangria was excellent. In tapas, we ordered - Scorched tofu kebab, patatas bravas with a delightful sauce, koshari pie, arancini and fava falafel (listed in order of my liking but all were really good). Would have loved to try more but we were full and also were out of time. Tips - Make a reservation and give yourself plenty of time to really enjoy this experience.

Pros: Great food, Great decor, Great staff

Cons: don't go here if you are in a hurry

Great vegan tapas

Really enjoyed our meal here! The tapas are actually fairly large: the menu says 3-5 per person but I would recommend staying on the lower end of that. The pita and hummus, patatas bravas, tortilla arabica, and arancini were all very good, and we also liked the koshari pie and the Dubai chocolate tart dessert. Wasn't as big a fan of the tofu kebab and roasted eggplant.

Great tapas

Came here for my birthday dinner and I was happy with everything we tried! 6 tapas plus 1 dessert was more than enough for my partner and I. Each plate is affordable on its own and it was nice being able to try so many things!

So great, and affordable!

I went right after they opened, and it was very good. Went back again, after they got the kinks out, and it was amazing. This place is really special, different, and unexpected. Highly recommend! It's also surprisingly affordable.

Affordable & cozy

So amazing! I love that the size of the dishes allowed me to try so many different things -- the eggplant was my favorite. We decided not to get the paella this time since it's a bigger dish and we wanted to try more dishes on the menu but I can't wait to go back and try it. The cocktails were cute and delicious. Great, cozy atmosphere with wonderful service! Plus almost everything is $10 including cocktails!

Tasting menu needs work

I came here with a group of 6 and we decided to get the tasting menu. There were some great items, like the shakshuka and confit leeks. There were a couple items I didn’t really care for like the roasted eggplant (too sweet) and the Simit bread. It had some kind of gooey cheese I did not care for. There were also way too many courses. We basically stopped eating when there were still multiple courses left. Maybe serve less bread so we have more room to enjoy other items. They could also make it cheaper and just offer fewer courses. I think they’re still new at this so I might revisit them later to see if they improve.

Great Find

Used Happy Cow to find the vegan food in the area we were in and saw this place and thought, “vegan tapas… YES!” Loved it, absolutely loved it.

Nice atmosphere and good food

Every plate we tried was great. It’s nice having the option to just order things until you’re all full. Our favorite was the mushrooms. Price wise it worked out around the same price as a regular restaurant menu. Cocktails were small but potent. Service was great

Amazing dinner

This dinner was fantastic. We had the 10-tapas tasting course, and for $55/person, it was an incredible deal. The food was amazing!!

The only downside was the really small servings of wine (in very tiny glasses), and the lack of an ability to make anything custom from the bar.

But what an amazing new restaurant. If you're vegan or just want wonderful food, go to Al-Andalus today!
