Prezzo congruo. Esperienza memorabile.

€12 local vegan tasting menu

This place is an absolute must if you’re in Matera. Every ingredient you put in your mouth is sourced locally and explained by the excellent staff as well as being available to buy from the restaurant’s shop. The tasting menu is only €12 and lets you try 10 traditional dishes from across the region. Vegan version easily replaces meat and cheese with olives, aubergine pâté, courgettes and another pâté. Best vegan Italian food I’ve had.

Agriristories - eating the local culture

Awkward to find yet pleasing upon arrival. Contrary to other reviews, staff were perfunctory and curiously average, apart from one chap whose enthusiasm nearly made up for the lack of his colleagues. We chose the €12 veganised taster menu comprising 3 courses of locally produced foods from the Matera area. The tastes were quite individual; going from decidedly bland, through curious tasting to goodness, that’s tasty! Our food was also served on cardboard plates with wooden cutlery which are of course compostable when allowed to biodegrade, whilst reusable metal cutlery and porcelain plates were used elsewhere. This restaurant provides some good photo opportunities of traditional cave culture and you can also purchase the majority of the foods consumed. As a one off, this restaurant offers a lovely ability to eat the history of Matera, the same Matera chosen for filming part of the James Bond film - No Time To Die.

Pros: Dishes can be made vegan but you may need to ask, Provides cool sanctuary on a warm day, Delightful interior

Cons: Pay for bread on table, Pay for water on table

Paradiso per i vegani!

Ampia scelta, i primi sono tutti completamente vegani e genuini, per niente scontati. La cucina lavora ben poco le materie prime, questo rende i piatti ancora più buoni.

Great local traditional food for vegans

Vegan visitors to Matera should definitely check this place out. They have several simple but very good dishes made from local food and stories to tell about where all the ingredients are from and what traditions there are behind them. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about veganism. Several vegan starters or main dishes plus a set of "stories" (collection of snacks coming in three courses) that can optionally be made vegan.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Fair prices, Traditional dishes

Cons: Not everything is vegan
