Caponata was great - Edit
Unfortunately, about half an hour after we had ordered, the waiter informed us that the noodles with pumpkin, the inly vegan main dish, were actually finished. She suggested that she could instead prepare me the “poke with chickpeas” without cheese so it would be vegan. I ordered that.
Read moreNow while I had read “poke with chickpeas” in the menu, I was not prepared for a poke where the rice had been replaced with chickpeas. Other than that, I was again reminded of how white people had colonized the world in search for spices, only to then not use any of them in their cooking. Obviously, that includes Spanish people.
The Caponata, on the other hand, was exceedingly delicious, even as the bread was toasted too much.
One piece of advice: in this area of the beach street, it should be possible to find a parking spot on the road later in the evening.

Good vegan options - Edit
If you’re in Peñiscola this is one of the only places with vegan options. I tried the zucchini spaghetti and the eggplant tapa and they were both really good! My non vegan family also really liked them. We also tried the vegan “crema catalana” but personally I wouldn’t recommend it, didn’t really taste like the original one

To be fair, most restaurants in Spain can prepare you a vegan sandwich or “pan fon tomate”. If you go to tapas places, you will also find pimientos del padron qnd patatas bravas (ask to have them without mayonnaise)

Awesome for a non vegan restaurant - Edit
Even though not everything is vegan, the vegan options were very good. I would say excellent. As a starter I had a plate of 4 different tapas (you have to ask for vegan starters in the menu) . And as a maincourse the before mentioned zucchini noodles. And a dessert (Iam still waiting for it 😁). All coffee bread for 15€. Absolut okay.

I don't like the fact that the majority of the menu isn't vegan, but it's the only restaurant with vegan options at this city. The zucchini noodles were great though.
