Bombay has a few veggie dishes, so we go there quite a bit. IT is really hard to find veg food in Alabama, so we take all that we can get. There are only a few places that we can eat out in town, and Bombay is one of the best.

But if we lived in Chicago I would probably never go there.

ok, for the south

If I lived in a northern city with a lot of vegetarian options, I wouldn't even consider Cafe Louisa a vegetarian restaurant. But I since I moved from Chicago to Alabama my standards are different. They are probably one of the most vegetarian-friendly options in this part of Alabama. I guess that is kinda pathetic because they only have like two or three veggie or vegan sandwiches. But, it is better than nothing around here, so we go there a lot, and enjoy it.

Super Veggie!!!

24 Mar 2008

We were in Portland for a conference for 5 days, and this restaurant was not listed on HappyCow yet because they had just opened that week. We just happened to walk by it. Wow, what great food, excellent service, and a lovely atmosphere. Such a treat for a vegetarian from the land of BBQ and meat (Alabama). This rivals any veg restaurant we have been to in Chicago or NYC. Good prices, super fake meat, and very creative menu. I can not recommend them enough.

Great place. Amazing fake meat. The fake beef is a little better than the fake port, which reminded me of spam. I can't wait to go back and try the fake seafood. The owner was very pleasant and chatty. He did not mind when I breastfed baby in the restaurant, and did not avert his eyes and pretend that I was not there, as many people do when the see a breastfeeding woman. He just served the food normally.

Great veg restaurant in the land of seafood!

I am so glad that I looked up veg restaurants before my trip to Sarasota, because this was the only decent place we ate at the whole time. We went there four times on our week-long trip to the beach. They have veg sausage and bacon, vegan tofu scramble. We got some take-out food for the long drive home, so we did not have to stop for French Fries at McDonald's. What a great find! Simon was so nice, even when I was breastfeeding at the table (several times), and the waitress gave us a little plate for smooshed sweet potatoes for the baby. The wait staff was great.
