Charles Darwin was rumored to be a vegetarian scientist

Quotes:
- "There is no fundamental difference between man and the higher mammals in their mental faculties ... The difference in mind between man and the higher animals, great as it is, certainly is one of degree and not of kind."
- "The love for all living creatures is the most noble attribute of man."

Charles Darwin was the scientist who championed the theory of evolution. Although deceased, he is famous worldwide and is still subject of many discussion on the origin of life on earth.

Was never remotely vegetarian. For information see: <a href="http://www.ivu.org/history/europe19b/darwin.html" target="_blank">IVU</a>

Raymond, I am 68 and I can attest to being wiser now, than even 20 years ago! I have been VEGGIE (now vegan) 36 years, and I have NOT been sick since then! (1986). I'm also a SOBER alcoHICKalic! lol 6 years sober this stint. I am having trouble beLIEving that Darwin was veggie, mostly because most ATHEISTS are CORPSE-CRUNCHERS! That's what brought me here. ( researching Darwin.)

This should be moved to the "maybe" section at the bottom of the page.. there's no evidence to suggest he was a vegetarian.

Is there any documentation of him becoming a vegetarian? I couldn't track down any good sources, and those quotes don't prove anything.

Although Charles Darwin was a vegetarian he became vegetarian later in life. In fact his early university years were spent as a member of the Gourmet Society where he and his university colleagues would eat all manner of animals including bats, hedgehog, owls and similar anumals to discuss their taste.
Having said that, it does show that even late in life Darwin made the right decision and became a fully fledged vegetarian. Proof that with age, comes wisdom.
