Cool vibe, impressive menu, service can be improved - Edit
I enjoyed the sushi and soup of the day (moringa). The experience was tarnished by some miscommunication. The restaurant redeemed themselves by offering a small discount on the bill however I was a bit put off from returning during my stay to explore more of the menu. A shame as I would have liked to otherwise. Clearly a popular spot for tourists / expats judging by how busy it was when I was there.

Exceptional aesthetics, flawed food - Edit
Zest delivers a 11/10 when it comes to style but when it comes to food and service, misses the mark.
Read moreEverything about Zest’s ambience screams bohemian hippie. The decor is a composite of upscale, cozy, and eccentric. The posh influencers and hippies only add to that effect. The temple and views are equally spectacular. This is a great venue for a date or a celebration.
Sadly, the quality preparation of food is off. The pizza has flavorful smoked sausage and cheese. However, the “sourdough” crust is little more than a flaccid pita as it had been microwaved. The wings are wonderfully crisp and marinated, but has the aftertaste of artificial buttered popcorn. The snikers bar is tasty, but imbalanced between hard chocolate and soft filling.
Further, the servers seem emotionally exhausted whether because of management, understaffed team, or entitled diners. When I had scooter problems some parking staff were helpful while other looked ok indifferently.
UPDATE:
I returned to give it another go.
The shiitake burger is one of the BEST vegan burgers I’ve ever had! A perfect balance between butter bun, savory patty, and creamy cheese.
The cinnamon waffle had great texture, but was hardly “sweet” as advertised. The Cacao Ceremony was nice, but thicker and less sweet than I’d hoped. The small is plenty for one.

A beautiful venue, nice atmosphere. Customers are mostly of the neo hippies / influencers kind ...

Service however can be extremely slow and chaotic as they always seem to be understaffed..

Nice food but long waiting time - Edit
My husband and I were very excited about going to this restaurant because of the ratings here, but it wasn't a great experience. The food is nice and good, but not the best. It's great it's all vegan though, so a lot of options. However, when we went there the restaurant was quite full and it seemed the kitchen couldn't handle the number of guests. After ordering, we had to wait over an hour to get our food and then they had made a mistake with my husband's order so another 15-20 min wait. The portion size is a bit small so normally we'd probably have ordered an extra side dish or dessert after but due to the long waiting we didn't want to risk having to wait a long time again. Also quite pricey for the size of the dishes.
Read moreWhile the food was good, personally we didn't think the taste was worth the long waiting time so we probably won't be back. Seems we weren't the only one as we heard several other guests complain about this also

Good vegan fusion restaurant - Edit
I really loved the atmosphere at Zest - it’s a very beautiful restaurant! The food was really good, but quite pricey for the portion you get. Still an amazing adress for vegan food in Ubud ☺️

Best restaurant in Ubud for "fusion" food - Edit
Definitely the most creative and tasty options in Bali. Many westernized or authentic versions of traditional dishes like sushi, carbonara, pizza, and burgers. Definitely not your option for "traditional" Indonesian food, but by far the best food I've had on the island and maybe in my foodie trips. Fair prices, many gluten free options, all servers speak great English.

Epic - Edit
Zest is incredible. Perched on what seems to be its own little Ubud hilltop, Zest occupies a commanding vantage point and has some great views of Ubud.
Read moreWe were here a couple of times and we had a fantastic experience on both occasions.
The first time: we went for brunch – the breakfast burger is super delicious. The smoothie was nice and the home made fries were great too.
The second time: we went for lunch – we tried the Peking duck style platter. It was an experience. There were 3 kinds of mock meats, a dipping sauce, some gravy, and generous portions of salad greens and fresh veggies.
Just like the rest of Bali, the staff is warm and you get great value for your money.

Food was nice, but... - Edit
Zest has some amazing views and beautiful trees around, the wait staff were kind and the food we ordered was decent.
Read moreHowever, half of the menu wasn't available, we chose about four items each before being told what actually was available, so what we got wasn't really what we wanted. Also, the portion was quite small considering the price, especially for the burger (I had the fish style burger). My partner had the sushi, which was 8 pieces of one type, but no choice to have eg 4 pieces of two types, which would have made the plate less boring.
The drinks were good, and we didn't order dessert so no comment
Pros: Food tastes good, Great views
Cons: Expensive, Small portion sizes, Many menu items unavailable

I ate here at least three times on my trip! It’s an extensive menu so you’re spoilt for choice. I had the pizza, cauliflower wings, jackfruit empanada (those are an absolute must!), potato and cheese balls, the pasta carbonara (best I’ve ever had!) and Ferraro rocher ice cream (sorcery how good it is!) great vibe for a lunch or dinner. Will definitely go back:)

Most overrated place in Bali - Edit
Honestly one of the most overrated place in Bali.
Read moreFirstly the service is incredibly slow, the poor waiters are rushed off their feet. Hire more staff!!
Secondly, the food isn’t that good. The portions are on the small size, especially the pizza. The ‘sourdough’ base actually tasted like one of those ready made frozen bases you buy. The burger is fine but nothing that special. There are other places in Ubud to get better food and better service.
Don’t get the putine fries - disgusting. Overly sweet gravy on coconut tasting cheese on about 10 fries. Don’t waste your money.
We also were disappointed items were missing off the menu like the pasta.
The venue is nice and it’s great to see a plant based restaurant doing so well.

Good food but needs better service - Edit
So we actually came here twice during our time in Ubud but had different experiences each time. So the first time we came it was busy and they seated us at a shared table which was a bit strange and was quite hard to eat at as we were on a sofa and the food was on a low down coffee table in front of us so we had to bend over to eat. The drink selection was slightly disappointing as most of the cocktails/juices have quite random ingredients (who wants turmeric in a juice?) However, we quickly got over this as the food was too good for us to care! The carbonara sauce was really rich and tasty and the jackfruit empandas were incredible. I also had the peanut butter milkshake which was delicious! Because of how good the food was we decided to return but the second visit was a real let down. When we arrived we were told that because it was busy we would have to wait an hour to order food but we could have a drink, which was fine. We were sat quickly at a table and just waited with our drinks until we could order our meal. However whilst we were waiting after about 1 hour 2 tables were seated next to us and their food orders were taken straight away! The table next to us was actually served their food before we were even able to order ours even though we’d waited over an hour and we had to hunt down the staff to ask. We were also not able to order some of the food we wanted which after waiting for so long was a shame. The food we did get was food though - we had the duck inspired sharing platter (although it wasn’t anything like duck it was mushroom schnitzel and jackfruit sausage) which was really nice. We were also planning on getting pudding but because it has taken so long to be served we weren’t able to order anything else as it was too late. It was just a shame that the service let down the second night. You can’t make reservations after 7 pm which seems like a strange choice when they weren’t able to keep up with how busy the restaurant was! I would just recommend getting there earlier and definitely order the empanadas!

Lovely venue and menu, underwhelming food - Edit
The venue is great, the menu is extensive and has lots of interesting options. It's busy so it has a good atmosphere. The food could be better, some of it just wasn't that nice compared to what you expect before it arrives. The sushi tasted a bit funny. Under staffed, didn't give us the wine list so we thought it was another of ubuds dry restaurants, so we ordered soft drinks before realising we could get wine!

Disappointing - Edit
For such a hyped up restaurant in an amazing location with a large menu and so many good reviews this place really disappoints. I hate to rate a vegan restaurant so low but we ordered more than six dishes and the food was really well presented but tasteless. The vibe is very pretentious and service is slow. We waited almost 45 minutes to get served. Sad to say but I definitely wouldn’t go back.

Amazing! - Edit
Probably one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. Went to Bali for three weeks and ended up going to Zest 2-3 times. The pho is AMAZING. I also tried one of the vegan sushis, the mushroom pizza, Poutine, one of the veggie burgers, and a few other items (went with a group) and every single item on the menu was really good. Good prices and amazing food and drinks. Menu wasn’t reliant on substitutes.

It was okay... - Edit
The first time I visited this restaurant it was a busy afternoon, they did not have many of the items we wanted to try, as they ran out of ingredients. What I did have was tasty that day- the small smashed crispy potatoes, the moringa leaf braised in coconut water, the spinach mushroom and garlic, the sweet potato wedges with a dipping sauce and the taro chips with dipping sauce, and a pizza. The second time I was there, ordered some of the same things but the food was lacking flavour, the service was terrible, they ran out of ingredients again. It was also expensive for what I did get... last time.
