Love their take out pizza!

Love that I can get a large vegan take out pizza for $14 bucks. Makes date night dinner at home easy and delicious (and relatively cheap).

of course whole foods has everything...

they have a great selection of vegetarian and vegan products, but there is no way i could afford the vegetarian/vegan proteins with my foods stamps.
my favorite thing here is their vegan "crab" cakes. they are filling and delicious hot or cold. they are also inexpensive versus some of their other items.
their vegan almond cookie is also really good -- just make sure you get one that is nice and soft!
their breakfast tofu scramble is really lovely, but it is hit or miss. sometimes it's really good, sometimes it's so-so (but can always be doctored up with some salt and pepper, salsa, Braggs, etc.)

Pros: lots of vegetarian and vegan items, produce always looks nice , bulk selection is great

Cons: expensive , always very crowded , hot bar is expensive

hopeful it will become more vegan-friendly again

I used to love this place. And I really hope to love it again. But in the last couple of years, while the rest of the world seems to have become more vegan-friendly, the Chapel Hill Whole Foods has become less and less so. Which hardly makes sense to me, since so many other Whole Foods are incredibly vegan-friendly. They have removed so much from the salad and hot bar that was vegan. Now there are no vegan breakfast options at all left - no veggie meats, no tofu scramble, nothing. The standby oatmeal is still there, I guess. They have even pulled a lot of vegan popular items from the shelves that you can find at regular grocery stores. They even dropped the pretty regular vegan baked food options. I am not sure why - but it's such a bummer.

Would love to change this review some day.

Pros: the veggie mock chicken salad is still great.

Cons: Least vegan-friendly Whole Foods I have been to

My go-to place

Always has delicious vegan options in the hot bar, salad bar and deli. On work days, I can run by and get a quick healthy lunch. At the hot bar, there are always at least 3 vegan protein options, sometimes more (other local WF sometimes have zero options so this is a huge plus). They use local produce and have their own GF bakery. I have eaten here since it was Wellspring back in the 70's and even through all the expansions have found it a warm, inviting and healthy place to take a pause.

Pros: Always vegan options, Happy employees , Quality food (sensitive stomach knows)

Cons: A little pricey

Great vegan options!

Whole Foods has great vegan options, and they are even good for omnivores seeking meat raised slightly more ethically. The CEO is a vegan, so I'm confident in his commitment to provide great vegan food and to animal welfare a priority (as much as it can be for a place that sells animal products).

Their hot/salad bar is great, and their prepared foods have lots of vegan options.

This, along with Weaver Street Co-op and Trader Joes, completes an amazing trifecta of vegan-friendly grocery shopping!
