Disappointed with service - Edit
I was very much looking forward to trying out coffee and pastries from this place but unfortunately I didn’t get any service in the 12 minutes I stood in line for. It was Super Bowl Sunday and I understand they were busy and taking orders but 12 minutes is a bit of an excessive wait time to not get helped whatsoever. I was standing at the cash register, looking at the two pastries I wanted to order and no one attended to us, there were five people behind me as well as a few others waiting around to get service. I walked out. If I’m in Pittsburgh again maybe I’ll try this place one more time.

Can’t believe it is vegan! - Edit
The pastries were divine - crossaints, pain au chocolates, cinnamon buns, and so much more! For savory I highly recommend the Special Egg sandwich.

Good and Very Very Bad - Edit
From the moment we opened the door, our visit was unpleasant. One of our party was not wearing a mask, and the woman behind the counter asked that everyone wear a mask. That was perfectly reasonable, and we were happy to see that they were taking the health measures seriously and to oblige. That was the last positive moment we experienced. We started to sit at two open tables, but the woman behind the counter said we had to order first. We acknowledged that, then proceeded to push together two tables for our party of five with the intention of leaving our things there while we ordered. The woman behind the counter then barked at us to not push together tables. We looked at the only other customers there, another group of five sitting together at two tables pushed together. We began to wonder why this woman was applying rules so aggressively to us while we were only doing what another group was already doing.
Read moreDuring the ordering process, a rigid application of the rules continued. One of our party requested that her order not have cheese on it, but she was told unapologetically, “No substitutions or modifications.” Seriously?! A piece of cheese that is added can’t be NOT added? Is the cook so well-trained that she cannot skip a step for fear of the planet spinning off its access or some other nonsense? This member of our party was then forced to remove the cheese.
After ordering, we decided to try to sit at one of the larger bar-height tables by adding a fifth chair. Once again, the woman barked from behind the counter that moving the chairs was not allowed. So, after yet another round of rules-are-more-important-than-the-reasons-for-the-rules, we sat together - sort of - at three two-top tables. For the record, the group of five at the two tables pushed together was very apologetic even though it wasn’t their fault that they were benefitting from a breathtakingly inconsistent and overzealous application of the rules.
Yes, we’re in the midst of a pandemic. Yes, it is very much appreciated when people and businesses take the precautions seriously. However, there are good ways and there are bad ways to convey unpleasant messages, and unfortunately it seemed the woman behind the counter was hell bent on finding all the bad ways.
The food? It was quite good, but that fact was lost in feeling like we were children being scolded by our mother.
Note: there is a two-star minimum for reviews of vegan establishments, which is undeserved here.

Great! - Edit
The food and the service at the cafe were amazing!
Read moreI came with my family (4 people). We got the Sausage and Egg Sandwich, Bacon and Egg Sandwich, Tofu Sandwich, Steak Sandwich, Bubble Tea, Pistachio-Matcha Muffin, and a Glazed Donut. They were all great. The only slightly negative thing was the sandwiches were all very large (height wise), so we had to use a fork and knife to eat them. The bubble tea wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but it was still good. However, the biscuits on the breakfast sandwiches and the “meats” were amazing.

Get the matcha croissant! - Edit
The matcha pistachio croissant was delicious and looked just like the picture. The only downside is that it was a little oily, but for a specialty croissant, it was pretty good. The chocolate croissant was similar. I just wish that the chocolate were a little sweeter.

Must Try - Edit
Was very delicious, and I know if I lived in Pittsburgh I would be a repeat customer. Would love it if they had more options for brunch / lunch but we basically got one of everything and we were not disappointed. Wish there was somewhere to park as we had to park far and walk, but that's not their fault. Service was good and quick and I knew after the first bite I had to give a 5 star review. If you're on the South Side please give them a shot, you won't regret.

A new local staple! - Edit
I've tried most of their breakfast menu, and everything is so good. Their sandwiches and cinnamon buns are especially solid, and the chai latte has enough spice in it to hold up with the milk. Love this place.

THE vegan cafe of PGH - Edit
Their baked goods are to die for. Their sandwiches are even better. I can't get enough. Be sure to order ahead of time online, a day ahead if you can! They sell out of stuff quickly.

Simply amazing - Edit
I’m OBSESSED. I’ve been vegan for a long time (5 years and counting!) and have never been able to get a breakfast sandwich with a biscuit. And they’re so good and hearty for such a great price! I kind of can’t believe the sausage is made with TVP, it’s that good and meaty.
Read moreNow let’s talk about their croissants. They have no right being this delicious because I WILL spend all my money on them. And they do pain au chocolat and other flavors! They also have a delicious cheesy everything seasoning brioche bun that is *chef’s kiss*
They’re also so kind. I probably message them once a week on insta just gushing about them or asking questions and they’re always so, so nice and open to questions and my crazy flavor-requests :)
I have not been able to have too much for lunch, but their broccoli cheddar soup is SO GOOD. And their lunch menu is so appealing, I will have to stop getting breakfast and get lunch!
If you’re into good good, amazing desserts, and supporting a local place that opened during the pandemic (I can’t even imagine the guts and determination and focus to do that!) then you MUST visit.
Pros: Minority and woman owned, Vegan croissants, Breakfast sandwiches!
Cons: Parking can sometimes be a pain

I highly suggest you get some breakfast here and take it to the boat launch under the bridge and watch the water flow by. Excellent way to spend a Sunday morning.

Yummy - Edit
Driving from Colorado to eastern PA, my husband and I made an intentional detour to find this restaurant after reading about it on Happy Cow. We wanted coffee, and I wanted breakfast. The coffee was delicious. We got a muffin and the breakfast muffin to go. I eat as much of a low oil, whole food, plant-based as I can, but this was a real treat. Very flavorful. I'm glad it isn't closer. : ) The owner and fellow employee were very nice as well. Definitely stop by!
