A few options - Edit
A few vegan options on a smallish menu. Good, tasty food in general but the vegan hotdog was a little underwhelming despite the good chips.

Absolutely fantastic ethical food - Edit
This place is a favourite of mine in Edinburgh! It’s a great place to take non vegans and still have friends and a lovely meal at the end of it!! Great vegan and non vegan options, run by the charity called social bite which does fantastic work to help the homelessness issue in Edinburgh! Famously attended once by Leonardo Dicaprio! I would give this five stars if it would let me!!

Nice options, not amazing - Edit
I ordered the miso seitan stir fry. It was extremely salty, way too much soy sauce and I had to send it back. The second dish that came out was much better and enjoyable and filling. It is a bit expensive but the atmosphere is very nice and they donate to helping the homeless in Edinburgh which is fantastic.

Cafe style eatery - Edit
On my recent trip to Edinburgh I visited Vesta twice, and enjoyed my experience both times. There are a variety of options for everyone and if you have someone who turned their nose up to eating Vegan (like I did) it’s the best of both worlds, if that’s what you’re looking for, however you may have to endure them eating a hunk of meat in-front of you like I did. :(
Read moreIt’s mainly fast food vegan while the ‘mains’ for the meat eaters are more up market but it does serve other.
Buffalo wings are amazing!!
Pros: Lots of vegan options , Social eats - gives to the homeless in Edinburgh , Fast service

A few vegan options, food ok. - Edit
Was pleasantly surprised to see quite a few vegan options on the menu.
Read moreWe ordered the mushroom scallops and the cauliflower wings - the presentation of both was lovely but the taste itself was quite disappointing.
We both ordered the seitan burger - the bun was burnt which really added an unpleasant smell and flavour to the meal, the seitan itself was ok although a little flavourless.
When we sat down we were warned food may take a while as.a big party had just sat down. This was ok, but the waiter then actually refused to take our order for a while 'so the kitchen didn't get stressed'. We thought this was a bit odd - we've already been warned the food may take a while but by not taking our order it definitely felt like the big table took priority over us which is not how customers are meant to feel! (In the end another waitress came over and promptly took our order and the food arrived without delay).
Trying to get the bill was also a very slow process.
Pros: Nice decor inside, Few vegan options, Nice presentation of food
Cons: Food quite tasteless, Service not great

Very pleasantly surprised - Edit
My husband and I (both vegan) visited Social Bite's new restaurant, Vesta, for lunch. We were pleased to see so many vegan options on the menu. We tried the BBQ seitan burger, seitan steak sandwich and garlic fries. The seitan was flavourful and a good texture (neither too dense nor too soft, both of which I've experienced in other restaurants). Both sandwiches were really nice, and messy (in a good way). The fries were just right, fluffy inside and crisp outside.
Read moreOur server was friendly and knowledgeable. The decor is good, airy and modern. They do offer dairy based versions of some of the vegan options, though from the menu that isn't clear (hopefully this will encourage more to try the vegan version).
Pros: lots of vegan options, tasty homemade seitan, socially conscious charity
Cons: not fully vegan, uses Cheezly mozarella - just okay

Should be better - Edit
Food was ok but nothing special, I had the burger and my friend the macaroni. Asked for vegan wine, they asked if I was vegan then advised they have one (red) and a 90% vegan organic wine. The lack of choice was disappointing considering their extensive wine list. When my friend ordered the vegan macaroni on the menu she was asked if she wanted the vegan one or the "normal" one. I think they will get better but it feel like they are still learning how to accommodate vegans.
