So disappointed... - Edit
I came here wanting to love this place. I had been following the people behind this restaurant since they had stated Saku Kobo but I'm sad to say that I was so disappointed with this cafe but I feel I should probably let them and others know why.
Read moreFirst off, let's start with Veganic, or what is commonly known as vegan permaculture. This store twists the common definition as vegan + macrobiotic, which I found confusing. Just a little nitpick there I must admit.
But what really let this place down was the food. While it looks good, and they even claim on a sign "Best Veg Burger in the Universe," I would have to disagree with them. First, the burger is too big to eat properly. I ordered the tartar burger since it sounded unique and good, but it was served in a bowl with a paper at the bottom which became soggy. As I had no choice but to eat this with a knife and fork I probably ended up eating some of the paper too. The flavour of the burger was nothing special, and the addition of cabbage in the burger just really didn't work unfortunately. It was bland, and not impressive. Considering how difficult it was to eat, I really can't say anything good about it.
My fiance got the gluten-free option of Coconut spice Curry DON. It came in a drink cup first of all, which might have been convenient had we ordered our food to go, but as we ate at the restaurant it wasn't good. It was difficult to eat a curry in layers as you may imagine as the cup is full it's difficult to stir in the curry and rice and vegetables together without spilling it on yourself so you end up eating some vegetables on top and then some rice on the bottom and not together. A poor presentation unfortunately.
Finally, we ordered a side of onion rings which were alright, but were only served about a tablespoon of ketchup for the whole basket.
It was expensive for the amount it was, and considering the quality of the food was far overpriced I felt. Again, I really wanted to love this place as I used to drool over the food at Saku Kobo but this was a real let down. I also got a feeling this place was more about health than about the exploitation of animals which was kind of a bummer to me. Sadly this experience made us weary of other veg restaurants but luckily our other experiences were all positive.
Update 07APR16
I have removed comments about the spices and corn after the response from Veganic to go as they were just conjectures to begin with.
Pros: It's vegan
Cons: The food is not grown veganically, Too expensive, Poor presentation & difficult to eat

Read moreThank you for coming while pre-opening. We served only plastic cup before. Now, we serve dishes plate for here.
Our curry is original. Our chef travel around the world and learn local cooking include India, Nepal. So our curry spice is not store based. It is a original blended.
We use organic baby corn. It is not bad all the cans product.
We keep going to serve good foods to customer for peace :)

So sad this place is now closed.... - Edit
I was staying at a hostel nearby so came to eat here several times, loved the friendly service, cozy atmosphere and their burgers were incredibly delicious! Especially loved their fish burger with home made tartar sauce and the teriyaki chicken burger - so sad to see they had to close their business, this place will be dearly missed! Hopefully they will be able to re-open at a new place in the future...

Not bad - Edit
I was looking for a place for lunch in the area and decided to go for this one after reading many good reviews. Maybe my expectation was too high. It wasn’t too bad but wasn’t special either. Also it was pretty pricy. I had the black bean burger (comes with crisps and tiny carrot salad) and iced rooibos tea and paid 2100yen. Definitely too much for what I was offered.

Cutest little place, only one table and then bar seats. Super friendly staff and great service. I got the teriyaki burger and it was so good that I ate it without putting it down once (also bc it was hella messy).

Vegan bean burger was good, but not wow. Fries were good. Burger was a bit wet from the salad inside and the bean patty very soft.

My favorite vegan place in Roppongi - Edit
The menu has a large selection of vegan burgers with optional hemp buns. Also great soy meat donburi and curry rice plates. There are also vegan desserts like brownies and cookies, of which I'm not a big fan. You can also

Tiny place - Edit
Last stop before I left Japan - found this little place and we had the Black bean teriyaki tempeh burger and the Black bean avocado tofu burger.
Read moreUnfortunately, both our portions of the potato wedges were not cooked and so we left them as we didn't want to complain.
The Black bean burger buns were big and really too dry, however the overall burger itself was good but way too tall/ big....and that's about it.
I do have a fond memory of the bathroom though: the toilet seat opens up when it senses you and it's warm and cosy.
The place seems to close whenever they want to even when they should be open.

great food! burgers are difficult to eat - Edit
I've come here twice, attracted by the pictures of the burgers I saw online. I've eaten the tartar burger, the cheesy beans burger, and one of their smoothies. I absolutely love the taste of everything here which is why I came back, but as another reviewer said perhaps this cafe is for people with a refined taste for vegetables and not all would like its veggie tastes. Smoothie was a typical size and price for Japan, but small and expensive if you're coming from a place like America. The interior of the cafe is very hip and cute, and I think it fits in Roppongi well. However, the inside is definitely small, if I remember correctly there are 6 bar-like seats and 2 small comfy chairs that face eachother. You can takeout or eat in.
Read moreThe restaurant has much more than just vegan burgers for a meal option, but if you get a burger be aware that it is very difficult to eat. You may have been able to guess that by looking at how tall the burgers are in the pictures. Sure it looks nice, but how do I fit it in my mouth? The toppings (lettuce and other vegetables, depending on what you order) are cut into big pieces and are hard to break off with just your teeth, or at least that was my experience. A few parts of the burger just slid off into the bottom of its wrapping, which I still ended up eating later with my chopsticks, but I'd prefer it if the burger stuck together. Ideally I'd eat it with a fork and knife instead of using my hands or chopsticks...and yet I still find myself wanting to eat their burgers for their wholesome taste and because I like the cafe's atmosphere. If you'd like to maintain your dining etiquette integrity, you can choose one of their many other items on the menu.
Pros: presentation of food, fun interior, good ingredients, English speaking staff and menu
Cons: limited seating, burgers are difficult to eat

Very refined taste - Edit
You have to come here with a keen taste for quality. The veggies are very wholesome and organic tasting — meaning if you eat beyond burgers at Carl’s JR, you’re not gonna be happy here. If you can taste the difference between farm fresh tomatoes and mass market factory tomatoes, you’ll love it. If you don’t like to see Soy Beans in a perfectly green color with an ideal shape, then you’ll love the edamame here. They’re like the Charley Brown Christmas tree. Kinda unpleasant to look at but super real and wholesome to taste. This place is legit legit, and attracts people who don’t care about the price of good quality. As a cultural statement, the purveyors seem to be running the legalization movement in japan with CBD oil on tap :)

Extremely dissapointing - Edit
I had been looking forward to trying the burgers here for a really long time, and I was so disappointed. The place was cute, but the food itself was at best underwhelming. The barbecue mushroom burger that I ordered had just three thin slices of small mushrooms in an onion sauce (not barbecue!), and the bun was barely slightly larger than a macaron. The majority of the “burger” was a sautéed cabbage chunk, there was no actual burger of any kind. I can’t imagine going back. Instead, if I’m ever in the area again, I’d go to Falafel Brothers where the food is truly satisfying.

Good but pricey and small - Edit
Really interesting Vege burgers and good quality but fairly small portions and a fairly small venue. About 7-8 seats. Not everything on the menu was available at the time but this might have been because it was lunch. Burgers good but very little in the way of sides, maybe order extra fries (more like roast potatoes than chips/fries). Vege chocolate cake was ok, a bit dry. Quite a few varied beers available, both local and US. Home roasted ice coffee was nice. Other products sold including quite a lot of CBD paraphernalia at the time we visited. Laid back ambience, possibly too hippyish for some. Lots of info on allergens, ethical sourcing. I think they do take out too. English menu. Friendly service. A bit pricey but it is in an artsy district so they probably do quite well from regulars. Shame the venue is so small, hope you like listening to other people's conversations! I think they change the layout for dinner.
