i was so excited when underground vegan opened. since then, i’ve tried it multiple times and have been consistently disappointed. between my friends and i, we’ve ordered and tasted a few different sandwiches, the po boy, tacos, fries, and shakes. the faux fish and meat dishes were almost inedible, and most of us had stomach aches afterwards (vegans & non-vegans).

i’m genuinely not sure how the ratings on this restaurant are as high as they are. my theories are that either 1. reviewers want to support one of the only fully vegan restaurants in bham or 2. many are not plant-based themselves and expect vegan food to taste significantly worse than non-vegan food.

unfortunately the food is just not good. there are significantly better vegan options in birmingham, even if they’re not sitting on completely vegan menus. would not choose to eat here again- and i’m sad about it.
