Must visit! - Edit
Exceptionally tasty food, lots of vegan options. Most of their vegetarian items that aren't paneer or soups can be made vegan. The chilli garlic mushrooms are incredible as a starter, must have! Probably the best mushrooms I've had in 7 years being vegan. The Dal Bukhara was fantastic too! Call up to book if you're not staying at the hotel yourself, that's what we did.

Good but not consistent - Edit
I went there twice - first time the food was delicious, best Indian food I’ve eaten on the Kenya’s east coast. The second time was just ok, though. Service is professional and friendly, aware of the vegan/vegetarian difference. If you’re not staying at the resort, consider reservation beforehand cause on some days the restaurant fills pretty quickly.

Excellent food, stylish place - Edit
The restaurant is inside Swahili beach resort, which is a very stylish, tasteful and beautiful place. It’s definitely worth visiting at least once if you aren’t staying there just to see what it’s like. It makes a great setting for a romantic date or a celebration, and if you go to Spice route, give yourself some time to walk around and enjoy the place before or after the meal. You can go down to the ocean and have a cocktail with waves right at your feet.
Read moreThe food at Spice route was excellent: delicious, authentic and unique. They bring a complementary appetizer to all guests, which is a nice touch. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Together with the setting it made for a delightful culinary experience. The food is expensive though, and when it comes to curries, there are only two that are vegan by default, though probably more can be made vegan (we didn’t ask).
Pros: Delicious food, Marvelous place
Cons: Expensive
