Serves meat, vegan options available. Organic shop and Italian cafe. Coffees include soya milk options. Formerly vegetarian but no longer as of 2008. Previously named Organic House. Reported closed, Aug 2018.
I went to this cafe having read good reviews about it, but was very disappointed. We ordered 2 sandwiches but had to go back and ask where they were after 45 minutes as they hadn't arrived.
The menu looked good but the service was really bad and the cakes were really small.
I am unofficially awarding this cafe for the best pizza in the world- better than zizzi or any other average chain restaurant.
This little restaurant/pub had the absolute best pizza i have ever tasted. I had it on an activated charcoal base, which i was a little apprehensive about at first, but it was definitely a game changer. You absolutely need to try this pizza, you will not be disappointed!
Even my meat eating sister and vegetarian mother still said that it was the best pizza that they have ever had.
I also had the grilled aubergine crostini, and my dad had a vegan beer for anyone concerned in the alcohol department!
I will be returning as soon as possible!
My husband and I decided to go to Hebden Bridge for lunch and took ages deciding where to eat. We really made the wrong decision. We paid £24 for a sandwich, a burger and 2 drinks. The staff were so disorganised- it was uncomfortable watching them! The food took ages to arrive and the quality was so poor. We left nearly all of it and I hardly ever leave food! The burger was served with these barely cooked new potatoes covered in red oil. We definitely won't be back. Such a shame. I would say they should scale the menu down, train the staff and things may go better for them.
This was our regular coffee shop in Hebden, however we have recently decided to stop frequenting here, after poor service at the weekend being the last straw on top of very average food.
We were unfortunate enough to have stale and burnt cake, and upon returning it (which I did with great reservation, being a very anxious person), we were met with no apology and the cake was dumped in the bin, with no eye contact. To their credit, we were allowed to choose another slice of cake in compensation, but the last slice of stale burnt cake was left on the counter for another buyer!
It's a shame, as I could have dealt with this were the staff more welcoming. The smoothies are lovely, as is the coffee. Shame about the staff.
Has a nice ambience but the food and service are variable. I've had nice food here, but also bland tasteless food. There are vegan options but they are much less in evidence since the place started serving meat a while ago. Good for coffee and cake though and good when they're having a good day.
Having always been pleased with the food I have had here I was hugely disappointed today. This cafe now sells meat and fish and is not careful about how it prepares and serves food. Today I ordered a vegan hot chocolate made with soya milk, while the person I was with ordered a mocha made with cows milk. I was told which drink was which when we were brought them, but when I came to drink some it was apparent that I had been given the mocha made with cows milk. As a vegan I was very upset to have drunk cows milk. Staff were very apologetic but that is no good. This should not have happened. I will not be going back.
We're frequent visitors to Hebden Bridge and almost always stop at Organic House, even if just for tea/coffee and cake. Almost always busy (which is a recommendation in itself), the cakes on offer always include some vegan offerrings, and are all scrumptious. My one criticism would be that the food can sometimes be a little on the dry and bland side - a selection of relishes wouldn't go amiss, to liven up the veggie burgers in particular. If you can't get in, The Runcible Spoon over the road also does lovely food and cakes, and always has vegan options (but is sadly too "meaty" for it's own Happy Cow entry).
