Excellent food and friendly staff - Edit
THV is consistently excellent in quality and tastiness of the food and the friendliness of the staff.
Read moreI've had just about everything off the menu and it is all superb. I always eat far too much when I visit.
And now it has got even better because the menu has expanded with some new dishes, the mushroom bites starter are to die for!
Keep up the good work!
Pros: Food is excellent, Staff are very friendly, Menu is expanding

Delicious meals and cakes - Edit
Lovely settings, friendly staff. There was so much to chose from the menu it was great! We overate as overexcited by it all. We had tater tots, hearty chilli, burger, and sweet potato fries. All delicious. Really loved their home made sausages!! Great selection of cakes. Definitely recommend and will go again when visiting Belfast next.

Disappointing - Edit
Visited for breakfast.
Read moreI would normally rate this as 2/5 but I try to be supportive of independently owned, fully vegan operations, so I've awarded 3/5.
First negative was they weren't ready to start trading at the advertised opening time of 11am. Secondly, when we did get in, the place was absolutely freezing cold. No background music playing.
We ordered 2 cooked breakfasts, which came out reasonably promptly. The scrambled chickpeas and homemade baked beans weren't hot, only warm and therefore not heated sufficiently. Toast was cold and pre buttered, which was a minor irritation.
Positive was the service was friendly, albeit somewhat haphazard. Menu was varied and the space is nice. The background music (when it eventually did come on) was a tiny little travel speaker which did nothing for the vibe.
This place has potential but if they want to last, they need to focus on the details which make their business stand out and attract more than just hungry vegans in need of a pit stop.
Pros: fully vegan, friendly service
Cons: cold, poor presentation and cold food, lack of vibe

Delicious vegan food - Edit
Myself and my partner both got the pancakes with sausages. Amazing. So filling and tasty. Loved the cinnamon in them. I got a bottle of ginger bug which is made in Belfast. It was tasty and refreshing. We got a peppermint chocolate slice to takeaway and share later. It was yum. I'm sad I didn't get some cupcakes to take away too. Definitely will come back next time we are in Belfast.

Disappointing - Edit
Super cosy and friendly staff but I think just ordered the wrong thing (baked breakfast) and my food was very disappointing. I wish I had more time to go back and eat something else because it seems other people like it...
Read moreI would recommend that you go but just maybe don't get the baked breakfast.

Best Place For Breakfast - Edit
No question that this is the best vegan breakfast place on the planet! I had the apple strudel pancakes a long side a strawberry milkshake and was amazing like so so fluffy and tasty!!! My mother, whom I was travelling with, had the American style pancake stack with vegan sausages and I tried some also delicious, she is not a vegan and said were unfaultable and couldn't believe they were vegan! My mum also had a latte and said that their barrister skills were also great. Staff were also very chatty and genuine, nice people- when go back to Belfast one day will for sure return!

The American pancakes were amazing. They weren't like any American pancake I've had, but they were absolutely delicious.
Read moreThe dessert selection was almost overwhelming. I chose the carrot cake. Like the pancakes, it was delicious.
The restaurant is small and adorable. The server was really nice.
I'm looking forward to going back.

Hit or miss - Edit
We had been told that this place was a bit of a hit or miss, and that's exactly what it felt like. But I still had high expectations for it from what I had seen on their Facebook and was looking forward to trying it.
Read moreI got the grilled breakfast which wasn't bad but the two "vegan sausages" were in fact two disappointingly tiny patties and there wasn't really enough toast for the quantity of mushrooms and beans. The noodle salad was supposed to come "with a healthy scattering of peanuts, sesame seeds and fresh herbs", but it came only with sesame seed and the result was very boring save for the tasty sauce. I thought that the desserts would make up for it because they looked delicious. I was again very disappointed. The cinnamon roll was not light and puffy but had a closer consistency to a scone and the peppermint icing of the peppermint squares was very sickening (it was just margarine, sugar and peppermint flavouring and tasted like it had been in the fridge a few days).
If I hadn't had built this place up so much in my head, I probably would have had a better experience, but unfortunately I left the restaurant feeling a bit ripped off.
Pros: it's vegan
Cons: it's disappointing

Belfast BLISS! - Edit
Anyone who is vegan knows how challenging it can be to find food while travelling! We came across the honest vegan in Belfast and ended up having every meal here. The food, staff and atmosphere are just amazing.

Worth a visit - Edit
I had eaten at this address previously when under different management and name, I think the present little place is much, much better. They don't pretend to be what they are not.
Read moreReally nice food and friendly staff, the bangers and mash which I think is normally served on a Wednesday is just gorgeous, they make their own sausages and they hit the spot, good portions. It's surprising how difficult it is to get good basic food that has been prepared in a veggie or vegan kitchen. It means a lot and appears to be an important point missed by non veggies.
The Honest Vegan, for me, is a welcome addition to the area and one that I will enjoy at every visit. Thanks HV.
Pros: Veggie, Vegan, Sell some basic veggie fayre

love it! - Edit
I haven't been to the reopening yet however this has been my go to place everytime I am in Belfast. The lack of vegan places in Northern ireland is frankly ridiculous. The vegan breakfast is so yum and filling, I also tried the bean burger which had yummy pasta and salad on the side. The service is excellent and the cupcakes are da bomb. Cannot wait to go again!

That vegan cafe 2.0 - Edit
A rebranding of the popular "that vegan cafe" who moved, presumably as they outgrew their rather humble stable. I suspected a move to the old home of "Raw Food Rebellion" was on the cards, and was pleased to see one of their chefs had joined the team.
Read moreWhat I have encountered in the first few days of opening is that THV is offering a more polished version of its old fare.
My go to option, the breakfast, sadly no longer comes with sausages, but offers tastier beans, tofu scramble, breads and a branch of vine tomatoes (cherry). I tried the chilli and was pleasantly suprised at the delicacy of the flavour and found it decently filling.
Basically the cafe has inherited all of RFRs old tables, tableware and is pretty much laid out identically, save for some paintings on walls.
They have kept their old TVC staff otherwise and are still settling in to a new premesis. Can confirm the traybakes are still of a very high standard!
Hopefully THV keep offering hearty vegan lunches and do even better in their new environment. I hope Jim Vandermeer shows up again too! Menu I would say will change.
Please do the "hearty start" from RFR!
Pros: Hearty , More space , Totally vegan
Cons: Big tables but can be taken by 2
