I love love this place. From the premade stuff in the cooler, the jarred goods like cashew butter or the delish fried goodies! They also have the best French fries in town! Love the corn dogs, chimichangas and burgers!

Had a great meal here with my family during a stop on our long drive home from Nevada to the Bay Area today. I couldn’t stomach even the thought of another gross Carl’s Jr. veggie burger, and started searching for alternative as we were approaching Bakersfield. I’m so glad I did! They weren’t able to make shakes today so we couldn’t try those, but the food (Impossible burger, falafel burger, corn dog, fries, and Thai fries) was delicious. The friendly, welcoming staff, and indie but inclusive vibe (i.e. not even a hint of a “too cool for you” vibe) were fantastic, and was a really refreshing change from a lot of establishments in the Bay Area. No one even so much as gave us side-eye when our two-year-old laid on the floor for a few minutes and was on the verge of a tantrum (that thankfully did not materialize). Best of all, the music added to the vibe but was at a volume that actually allowed us to all hear each other! So refreshing. No changing table in the bathroom, but it’s a shared (and thankfully very clean) bathroom in a building with other business tenants. Grateful that we got to check them out today, and for the reminder that I should seek out and support indie spots while on the road. Wish I could have brought them back to SF with us!

Favorite Road Trip Stop - Edit
The Hens Roost is great for quick and delicious grab and go food as well as a intimate quirky place to sit down and eat. Love the food I get here every time. Menu has a diverse amount of comfort food options and the specials only add to it. Highly recommend their Thai style dishes and corn dogs! The staff is always kind, patient, and happy to chat about all things vegan. Always impressed with the Hens Roost.

Vegan Heaven - Edit
Wow, this is a vegan heaven. While traveling though Bakersfield I came upon this one vegan restaurant. There was plenty to choose from. My husband had the impossible burger and I had the chicken quesadilla. We were both very happy with our choices. The cashier was so helpful. She helped us make our choices and gave us free samples of the nut butters and a few other items. Even the chef Jay came out to let me have a sample of the ranch dressing. Everything we tried was delicious. We had a 2 Hour drive home still and they were so sweet as to give us ice to keep all of our food cold until we could get home. We will definitely go there again when we are near Bakersfield!

I love the hens roost for vegan junk food, their burgers are yummy, the Thai fries are delicious and I’ve not been disappointed yet. Try the spicy peanut sauce in the case ( it’s a game changer)

Everything on the menu is vegan. I was very impressed by the friendliness of the staff. Makes me want to go back and just hang out for fun. Food was excellent. Had the falafel burger and fries, which were made fresh to order. They were sold out of most dishes. Will definitely go back next time I'm passing through.

What a wonderful find! Friendly folks! Friendly service! The Pesto fries will make your eyes roll into the back of your head in happiness. The Chimichanga was so good and filling! I couldn’t leave without getting a Corn Dog! What can I say? Cravings and hunger fulfilled! I wholeheartedly recommend The Hen’s Roost. Will definitely be back!
