Fish & Chips

I ate here at a recent fish and chip shop Friday and was really disappointed. The fish was not fishy at all and just tasted like the batter it was fried in. Presentation was poor - lots of the inside of the fish looked like dark meat you find on chicken and it was served on a plate on its own, with the chips in a separate bowl. The battered sausage was better in taste but it had quite greasy batter. The chips were just regular chips, not really like proper fish and chip shop chips. We also ordered crusty rolls which were soft floured baps when they came. No apology and my partner doesn't like those sort of rolls so he left his. The curry sauce was probably the highlight of the meal but even that was pretty bland. Service is quite weird... The woman who served up disappeared for ages whilst we were waiting to order so the chef had to come out and take our order. Worst of all - later on that night I started to feel really sick and then threw up for most of the night. Really really let down by this meal.

Pros: Battered sausage was quite tasty, Sold good cans of drink , Not very expensive

Cons: Made me sick, Poor tasting food , Poor service

Not very good

I would give this one star, but Happy Cow insist on me offering two stars, just for them being fully vegan.

Sunday afternoon, hardly anyone there -- ordered within five minutes of arriving and had to wait almost forty minutes for the food to turn up, and it's not like we ordered anything exotic or difficult.

Then, when it turned up, it was rubbish -- I mean, it looked great, but there's more to food than presentation.

The loaded fries tasted oily and overdone -- and smothering them in cabbage can hardly be classed as "loaded".

The burgers were really nothing special -- I think they were soya based; tasted like the cheapest you could get from the supermarket.

The chocolate pancakes tasted like a wet bath sponge covered in the vegan equivalent of nutella.

Also, the coffee wasn't much cop either - the oat latte was acceptable, but the almond latte just tasted weird.

We ate what we could, paid and left -- the only reason we didn't make a fuss in the shop is because we weren't really in the mood for confrontation, but this really was not a great experience.

About an hour later I got a stomach ache and have been feeling nauseous all evening.

With all that in mind, I wish them well and hope that they improve.

Pros: Vegan, Not too expensive, Easy to get a seat

Cons: Slow service, Poor food, Very little allergen info
