Wonderful shop - Edit
Large store with a wide range of eco-friendly products. Food includes plenty of vegan items, a small section of organic, fresh produce as well as chilled, packaged, bulk, canned and other products, including household and personal care. Jewellery, bamboo socks, clothing. Also, organic, vegan beer, wine and cider! Lots of good chocolate too. Lots of local, organic, fair trade, not-animal-tested products. Fun store.

Worth a visit, despite the smell - Edit
Was having a lovely time in this wee shop until a wall of stench hit me. I thought someone had left a bucket of vomit out but no, it was a dairy cheese fridge. We really thought we'd found a great wee vegan friendly food shop but sadly not. If you stick to the front of the shop, you should be fine.

Thought it was time to update my original 14 year old review now that we’re regular visitors to Berwick. The Green Shop is a fabulous and essential part of the Town’s retail culture and ethos supplying locals with vegan groceries, ethical toiletries, fair trade crafts, confectionery, wines and spirits, vegan cheeses and deli items, fresh fruit and veg and locally baked breads. One of the best range of products under one roof you’ll see in the North East of England. They do sell a small range of organic meats unfortunately but such is life. Highly recommended, a visit to Berwick would not be complete without coming here.

Excellent Shop - Edit
What a wonderful shop this is. We got some delicious local rye bread, an artisanal vegan cheese and a pack wholemeal lasagne sheets and I also picked up some BWC make up and plastic-free food covers. This is such a lovely shop but also does have some organic meat and dairy items.

Popped in on a visit to Berwick and was amazed by the size of this place - it’s pretty extensive! They have a very good range of food and gift items, with the majority being vegan friendly. The prices were also very reasonable compared to other shops of this kind.

Aladdin's Cave - Edit
Great shop with plenty of vegan essentials and very welcoming staff. As some reviews already stated, the shop looks pretty ordinary from the outside but once you're inside, it really is like an Aladdin's cave with so much to see. We bought a coconut milk, which was reduced, plus two fragrant bath soaps. Not all products are vegan so expect to see some meat and dairy, but I would highly recommend a visit if you're visiting the lovely town of Berwick.

Lots of cool stuff; plenty vegan food items but I was horrified to be confronted with fridges full of body parts. This was the last thing I expected to see in a shop that calls itself "cruelty free"!

Brilliant little shop that appears to stock everything you could possibly need. Fresh, organic veggies delivered once a week along with freshly baked bread, organic milk/cheese plus organic meat from a local farm too for the meat eaters. Lovely selection for vegans also.

The best selection of green goodies in the area - Edit
The Green Shop is an essential visit if you are looking for environmentally responsible goods in the Scottish Borders and North Northumberland. There is an excellent range of food and non food products, and the owners have a policy of local sourcing for fresh produce (and are happy to discuss this with customers!). Deliveries are available. A good range of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks are for sale.
Read moreIf you are visiting Berwick, there are plenty of picnic type foods which would be ideal for taking out on a walk around the walls (or to the beach). Locally produced Ice cream from Doddington dairy is available too for hot days. There are lots of vegan foods in stock, products are helpfully labelled for reference (including wheat and gluten free options).
Local crafts, postcards and ethical wares are available (everything from stationery to clothing). Go and see!
