Tasty pies - Edit
We took a wrong turn when leaving Lake Tekapo, and so glad we did! 2 options of pies. Lentil curry (sweet curry with potatoes and carrots) $8 and mince and cheese (very realistic soy mince and flavoursome) $9.5. Highly recommend stopping here on your way through. Mince & Cheese even won NZ #1 vegan pie 2024! A must try!

kiwi classic! - Edit
they absolutely nail the mince and cheese pie, and are clearly passionate in making a good vegan effort at it. for such a remote option I don’t think a bigger range than there is currently is necessary - it’s a pie shop. if they branched out the vegan options they’d all just be the same “meat” anyway, that’s how the non vegan pies are, though a vegan bacon and egg would be crazy. the pastry is also excellent.

Excellent vegan pies! - Edit
Yum yum yum yum. I tried both pies after a long drought of places with terrible or no vegan options, so this was a delight. Totally recommend.

Two Tasty Vegan Pies - Edit
There are two options, curried lentils and vegan mince and cheese. Both were yummy but quite expensive!
Read moreNo other options, was hoping for a hot cross bun or other sweet treat but none were vegan friendly.
Only 3 stars as there is opportunity here to cater more for vegans, especially as it's always busy here so there would be good demand.
Pros: Pastry, Taste
Cons: Price, Limited options

Curried lentil pie was delicious! You can skip the long queue and go to the side window with the ice cream sign and buy pies there too😄

Two Vegan Options - Edit
I didn’t expect the bakehouse to have vegan options, but the curried lentil pie was very delicious and had great flavor. There was one other vegan pie on the menu. They also have non dairy milk options. It would be great if they expand the menu to include more vegan pies or other baked goods.

Nice pie, wish there were more options - Edit
There is only one vegan option here - curried lentil pie. It’s very nice - the seeds on top really give it a nice boost too. Shame there aren’t more options. I have tried two other flavours in the past (meatballs, and a lentil tomato one), but there only seems to be one vegan option at a time.

Unexpectedly good - Edit
Found a vegan curried lentil pie. Expected it to be a nod to veganism, in a sea of pies, but actually it was really nice. The only thing that would improve it is some wholemeal pastry.

Good pie. Go early. - Edit
Pretty good vegan pie consisting of curries lentils. Had to add some salt to bring out the flavors. There’s not much for vegan options in town so take what you can get. Good coffee with all the usual plant milks, including oat which is not listed on the board but just ask.
