Not a huge number of vegan options, but what they do have is excellent, and not just a consolation prize for vegans. They're really well done vegan entrees.

Fantastic Surprise - Edit
On our way to Canada this past summer we had the great fortune of discovering an amazing BnB called The Craignair Inn which has a restaurant, The Causeway, featuring a variety of vegan options. These aren’t just any vegan options either, they’re delightful vegan seafood dishes curated and conceived of by the proprietor, Greg.
Read morePictured are the vegan crab cakes and vegan lobster roll, paired with wild mushroom tacos and of course a pale ale from The Maine Brewing Company. “Do the Right Thing” is the Maine Brewing Company’s motto, and Greg and Lauren are 110% living up to those words.
The Craignair Inn itself is delightful and charming, and the restaurant, with inside and outside dining options during the summer, could not offer a better view of Clark Cove and the Maine Coast. Overall, we cannot say enough good things about this restaurant and its attached BnB. It’s hard to find vegan fine dining options on the road in America in 2022, sadly. That especially applies to vegan seafood, which, ask any chef, is the hardest animal-based food to recreate as a plant-based option.
If you find yourself vacationing in Maine, plan to make a stop in Spruce Head and stay for a night or a month at The Craignair Inn. We certainly wish we’d had more time to enjoy this gorgeous spot.
The Causeway Restaurant in The Craignair Inn - Unfortunately not possible to give them 5 stars, because they do serve meat based dishes also, but they deserve it for effort in this part of the world!
Pros: Vegan entrees, Beautiful atmosphere, Friendly owners
Cons: Meat dishes, but we are realists and get it.

Color me impressed! - Edit
Kudos to this restaurant for offering proper vegan options that are inherently plant-based, which sure is a rarity in this part of Maine. None of that salad without the cheese or veggie burger without the bun nonsense. The mushroom strudel I ordered was absolutely delicious. The filling was so mushroomy and flavorful I could've eaten a bowl of that alone. My partner also enjoyed his salmon omelet and cleaned his plate. Service was warm and friendly. Overlooking a cove with calm waters, the location is quiet and relaxing. We took a stroll after our meal and had a lovely time !

Amazing! - Edit
We stayed at Craignair Inn and ate at the Causeway for a baby moon weekend and it was amazing. We like inns and B&B’s but always have to decline breakfast and scramble to find something ourselves or pack protein bars. Here there was multiple vegan options and everything vegan is clearly marked. We had dinner twice at the restaurant as well because there were so many vegan options we had to go twice to try them all!

Beautiful and tasty - Edit
Went for dinner with the family. I tried the vegan crab cakes, the tofu & mushroom Wellington and the delicious passion fruit dessert. Everything was DELICIOUS. The service was very good and the owner (who’s vegan himself) was very attentive and friendly :)
Read moreAlso! Tried a few drinks: the cucumber gimlet (yum) , the blueberry margarita (yum!) and the surprisingly super delicious Butternut Squash margarita!
And to top it all off, the outdoor seating area is dog friendly (in fact they encourage you bring your pooch) and has the most wonderful view of Clark island and the coast!
Pros: Vegan options, Local food, Dog friendly
Cons: Pricey, Mosquitos when eating outdoors haha

Great food, generous portions and kind people. We loved the tasteful antique charm of the dining room while gazing at the view of the coastline. The blueberry martini was a nice change and delicious. Don’t skip the awesome vegan crab cakes!

Best Place for Veg Options in Maine - Edit
Wonderful restaurant attached to an inn that has numerous vegetarian, vegan options, and gluten free options. The inn and restaurant owners are both vegan and the chef creates amazing dishes for those of us with dietary restrictions. Beautiful view and near hiking trails - such a great find! Well worth a detour.

Flawless vegan options - Edit
Tried to give it 5 stars but HappyCow wouldn't let me, since that's reserved for fully veg restaurants only. That said, our meal was delicious, gourmet and extremely satisfying. Started out with the seaweed salad and crab cakes, which were delicious and sufficiently filling that I didn't have room left for the housemade veggie burger (which was great as a leftover). Excellent staff and attention to detail, they know what vegan means and asked the right questions and thought of details that most places miss. Lovely ambiance with ocean views. Also very conscious of COVID-19 precautions. It was our first time dining in a restaurant in months, and we felt safe and cared-for. Check their website and FB page for hours - they recently expanded from 2 to 5 nights a week, so we will be going back soon - hopefully this weekend!

I stayed for several days at the Inn so was able to try a wide array of their vegan options. I loved the local heiwa tofu in any dish. The vegan crab cakes were also super yummy. Everything I had was really well prepared and I would love to go back again!

Wonderful vegan choices, beautiful place, over the top service - Edit
How often do you get vegan pancakes when traveling? They are delicious. The vegan options for dinner were fabulous, too. The owners are very helpful and genuine. The grounds are well kept, gardens beautiful. Rooms are quaint. We stayed on the 2nd floor of the vestry with a view of the water. The parking lot includes a charger for electric and hybrid both. Owners are ecology conscious.

Delicious Vegan and Locally Sourced Meals - Edit
I stayed here for a weekend and was blown away with the extensive selection. The breakfasts offered a wide range of Vegan options including bagels, vegan cream cheese, as well as my personal highlight the homemade fruity muffins. Another one of my favorites was the miniature donuts. All of the vegan treats were fresh out of the oven and the perfect meal to wake up to. The evening menu offered a wide range of vegan options as well including vegan meals inspired my seafood such as a lobster roll. I chose to have the locally made Hiewa tofu special. The tofu was baked to a perfect crisp and had a mouth-watering sauce, but not too much of it. For dessert, I had the Vegan sundae. I was impressed with the homemade ice cream as well as the chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and cherry. It was a perfect sundae and a lovely ending to a great meal.
