Serves meat, vegan options available. Offers a few veg sandwichese at lunch and a few veg main entrees for dinner, marked on menu. Live music some nights. SHUT NOV 2015 PER ITS WEB.
We were looking for a vegan-frienly breakfast joint close to Stowe, and were happy to find tofu scrambles on the brunch menu of the Bees Knees, less than ten miles up the road. When we arrived, however, we were handed a menu without any tofu scrambles. We asked the waitress if the egg dishes can be veganized and she said she didn't know how it would be possible. I thought that was a strange reaction for a place that had tofu on the brunch menu shown online (they had "changed the menu last week"). It turns out that there were no breakfasty vegan items available, not even oatmeal. So we left. To be fair, it seems like a lovely spot, the server was nice, and there are lunch/dinner items.
The silver lining from all this was that we headed to the On The Rise bakery in Richmond - it's 45 mins away, but we were in no rush - which was fantastic.
The night we went, the menu had 3 different veggie options and even a vegan soup. We were very impressed with the selection and quality of the food. I had the quiche and my partner had the VT mac n cheese. The "big salad" was delicious with greens, candied walnuts, carrots, red onion, tomatoes and goat cheese. The set up is odd--you order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. That's not immediately apparent, though. We went on a Friday night, and it was very crowded. What got us was that there were 2 tables with people using their laptops and not eating or drinking *anything*. Plenty of comfy chairs and sofas to use for that sort of thing. We blinked and missed the opportunity to grab one computer geek's table. Luckily, everything is fresh, so by the time our order was ready, we'd snagged a table. Snag your table first, if you can, then order!
when i was living at my parents house this is where you could find me daily it is sooo good. the best thing is the mock pulled pork sandwich it is so good. pretty much anything you get plan on it being amazing.
