good food, but service does not match
I have been to susi about half a dozen times in the 18 months I have lived in the Philippines. The food is respectable, even if the prices are a little high for the area. I am willing to pay a bit more for something truly vegetarian. The menu has fun catchy names for the meals and, were it not for the service level, would be a great experience from the beginning. I have had one excellent experience with service staff there, but the other experiences are why I avoid a place I would eat at several times a week, even if service was only marginal.
i have been placed upstairs and, after 15 minutes, had to go down stairs and ask for a menu. From having to ask to have the order taken, to having to ask for the bill, I had to go down stairs and and interrupt the waitress, who was much more interested in conversations with other staff than the customer. this has been the norm every visit.
one trip, it was suggested to try one of their bottled beverages. I explained I do not drink alcohol, the waitress assured there was none. My friend told her in
Tagalog I am allergic to alcohol. She assured him there was none. There was. One sip and I was beet red and had to go downstairs to find staff, yet again. they still tried to put it on the bill. It was a bit of a discussion, but they removed the charge.
After about 4 months, I went back hoping for some improvement to service. The food is really good and I would love to be able to dine there regularly. I cannot remember if the same people worked there, but the wait staff had the same attitude. conversation with colleagues first, customers, if you get to a boring spot. The place is almost always empty when I walk by, despite the good food. I think I know why. It the attitude of the workers.
Pros: excellent food, good location, always appears to have plenty of seats
Cons: Waitstaff, Waitstaff, prices are slightly higher than they should be

New management, worse food... - Edit
I'm sad to say that the previous reviews may no longer apply. My husband and I ate here the other day and we had the same reaction- not going back there again! We used to love this place, however, the new management has clearly started to cut corners and using cheap ingredients. I ordered a beet/black bean burger that came with no black beans and it looked like soy protein had been added. The burrito was mostly rice in a tortilla. Everything was overty salty and my husband's fries were unedible. How do you screw up fries? My smothie was tasteless. There were flies everywhere which made us wonder about the state of the kitchen and the toilet could have been cleaned considering most staff were stading around doing nothing. At some point three staff were hanging around in the upstairs area chatting while we waited for water and flies were landing on everything. Clearly they are skimping on ingredients and the new management is not managing the staff. The place looks like it could use a good clean all around actually, and maybe replace the burnt out lightbulbs. I'm sad because there are few vegan options in Manila, but I'm not going back to Susi again.
