Nice to have an option but it wasn’t great - Edit
I tried the bbq tofu meal. for $34 I hoped for a lot more than I got - wedges, slaw and a few bits of uncooked tofu with sauce on top. The vegetarian option comes with corn too, I wish they made that vegan or gave me a discount. The tofu needed marinated or at least cooking. I would not go back.

It was nice to see a vegan option in an area that does not have much on offer for vegans. However, the jackfruit burger was bland and uninteresting. It would be nice if they marinated the jackfruit in a yummy sauce to help enhance the flavour. Wedges were nice and crispy.

Got the vegan jackfruit burger and was surprisingly impressed! I've only had jackfruit a few times before and had always been disappointed. This particular jackfruit burger was really delicious! The potato wedges were good too.

Incredibly kind staff, had an amazing vegan burger with wedges! Mostly a meat/seafood place but the burger was awesome. Live music every now and then too, great atmosphere.

Had the vegan jackfruit burger which was okay. Thought the jackfruit would be hot though! Good to see they had a vegan option but it was a bit pricey and not that exciting. I think I'd just get the chips if I was going back here.

I think they are trying to be vegan friendly, which is commendable, but the description on their menu didn’t match what was served. I got the stuffed butternut squash. Unfortunately, it was a stuffed pumpkin (not a butternut squash), and I couldn’t find any spinach or seeds, which are mentioned in the description. (Take a look at the pic I posted, and you’ll see what I mean.) Also, the homemade vegan aioli was just mayonnaise; I couldn’t taste any garlic at all.
Read moreI don’t mean to be overly picky, but menus exist so that people can make an informed selection. The dish out to be true to the menu. The menu needs to change to match the dish, or vice verse, or at a minimum the server needs to notify the customer of how the dish will deviate from the menu. I probably would have ordered the vegan burger if I’d known what this dish actually would be.
It’s a lovely and lively place, and I hope they work through these issues because they could be a good option for vegans traveling through Kaikoura.
