Great restaurant

It is, indeed, inside the Yu’Yuan Garden Bazzar / Old Town, but not inside the YuYuan Garden. The first floor has mostly inexpensive noodles and dumplings. The second floor is more expensive but still very reasonable with a pretty extensive menu and very tasty food.

Pros: excellent food, large selection of dishes, good value

Good warm food

We got a big amount of tasty food for a really good price, it was a pity we couldn’t finished everything because it was really good. We had to asked what dishes were vegan because some of them are not. What we didn’t like so much was the place, it was a little bit cold inside.

Delicious!

Delicious food! Right in the middle of super touristy area. Ordering was a bit tricky (couldn't get thr QR code on the table to work) but able to order at the counter. We had two types of steamed buns and noodles with soup. All fantastic! Just be warned the steamed buns come as a serve of 6 - so for two people we ordered too much, but took home as take away. Great prices too for the touristy area.

Kleine Auswahl, aber preislich ok

Preislich ok und gute Option in der Nähe von the Bund. Uns hat es ganz ok geschmeckt, die Auswahl ist eher klein und die Portionen auch.

Really nice experience

We ordered 2 types of dumplings, noodles and baos. It was so delicious and typical, I really recommend it. You can easily ask the waitress about the ingredients, she will advice you.
Cheap (less than 10€ for the 3 meals)

Lots of vegetarian options!

Had a bun. Was only €0.67 and tasted good! Whole vegetarian (and I think also vegan) food stall with a small restaurant inside

Buns!

While the restaurant is boarded up, take away is now available from a stall along the adjacent road (3 out of 4 buns are vegan). The restaurant is still open, but at limited capacity and gets very busy. Portions are huge, and we ended up getting quite a lot bagged up for later!

Try the buns!!

The menu is a bit small but provides some safe vegan options that will fill you up!
The red bean, sesame and pakchoi buns are all safe and delicious vegan options.
Some of the noodles and mushroom dumplings are also vegan.
When I asked the staff, they said anything with the fake crab meat is not vegan due to egg, and the sweet potato bun was also not vegan.

Pros: Cheap, Yummy buns

Lots of vegan options

Fully vegetarian restaurant with lots of vegan options, including noodles and traditional Chinese food. Ingredients are clearly listed on the menu. Food is very reasonably priced and very tasty. I’d been in Shanghai for a couple of hours and was hungry, stressed and struggling to find anything vegan, so I was so happy to come across this restaurant. Staff speak some English and are really helpful at pointing out the vegan options, and were very kind to help me figure out how to use Alipay. Definitely recommend if you’re in the area!

Lovely vegan food in Old Shanghai!

Some dishes have ingredient labels and most of them seemed vegan.
We shared the Shepard's Purse (wontons) in broth, one of the vegan noodles sets and the veggie bao's fried in sesame soy sauce. I can't remember the names exactly but you can find everything on the AliPay or WeChat app. We ordered and paid on the app, but we did use translate to understand most of the menu😄it's easy though! Good meal!

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Easy to find

Nah an den Yuyuan Gärten

Wir haben hier Nudeln Suppen gegessen und waren froh, gleich nach dem Besuch der Gärten etwas veganes zu finden. Das Essen war korrekt.

Really yummy traditional food in great location

Yuyuan is a lovely (albeit touristy) area full of beautifully renovated old buildings. We were pleasantly surprised to find a vegetarian restaurant here and really enjoyed the food. The staff were so helpful and friendly and it is so cheap. We had noodles the first time and they were very tasty and filling. The next time we tried the dumplings and buns (ask for them without egg) and they were delicious! I'm going back for more today. Copy and paste the Chinese name above into maps and it's very easy to find. They also have a takeaway area facing the street with sweet and savoury buns etc.

Authentic gem

The noodles were great - wish I’d been able to visit a few more times to try the rest of their menu. The menu lists (in English) the ingredients in each dish so it’s easy to avoid the non-vegan ones (which contain egg).

Pros: Good portion size, Authentic local food, Delicious!

Authentic Centennial Vegetarian Cuisine in Yu Garden

Discover a culinary treasure nestled in Yu Garden, offering delectable local delicacies. I savored the SongYueLou Noodles paired with Vegetarian Crab, alongside Vegetarian Crab 小笼包 and 富贵花开. The noodles boasted impeccable flavor and ideal texture. While the 小笼包 skin leaned slightly thick, the flavorful filling compensated deliciously.

The only vegetarian restaurant in YuYuan

After a considerably long walk in YuYuan Old Street, we were utterly grateful with the presence of a decent vegetarian restaurant serving authentic Chinese cuisine within YuYuan! In fact, we had been planning to make a trip to this two-storey restaurant via our Tripadvisor research.

As the reviews were raving and ratings were high, we had high expectations of this restaurant. Unfortunately, it was somewhat met with slight disappointment; the food was just mediocre and I wasn’t sure if it has to do with my choice of selection. Though edible and filling, it didn’t seem to impress me deeply as compared to the other vegetarian restaurants which I had dined in Shanghai. We ordered 3 dishes, mainly the fried rice, soup noodles and fried spring roll. The only dish that I really enjoyed was the fried spring roll.

Furthermore, the service was second-rate, as the waiters were rough and seemed rather indifferent and impatient. At the time of our visit at around 2pm, the restaurant was only partially filled. Do note that the menu has both pictures of the dish and English translations.

All in all, this restaurant serves decent and affordable food within proximity in YuYuan old street and is highly recommended if you are a vegetarian shopping in this precinct. Do note that there is a clean washroom at the second level, in case you need it.

Pros: The only vegetarian restaurant, Decent and not too pricey food, Clean and comfortable environment

Cons: Indifferent customer service
