Shezan? More Like Shazam!

From the outside, this restaurant gives little away; its quaint, sunken outside dining space being the only clue as to what might lie in wait. Step inside, and you are greeted by colourfully adorned walls, playful decor, and a calm ambience. Feeling suitably at ease, I placed my order and waited to see if the food would live up to the surroundings.
With the arrival of the starters, I knew that indeed this meal was going to as good as I had hoped as both the mushroom and onion pakoras were excellent; especially the former. Though as good as they were, they paled into insignificance when compared to the most unlikely of dishes: the roasted potatoes.
I have no idea what magic was worked on these humble tubers to make them so incredibly moreish, but it’s fair to say that I was slightly enamoured with them.
More brilliance was to follow in the form of the chole. With a rich, well spiced gravy and perfectly prepared chickpeas, it was a pleasure to eat. Even the rice I had alongside was notably high in quality.
All this would have been enough for me to heartily recommend this place, but there was one more element that made it stand out even more and this was the bread. Not usually a point of significance, here it was a different story, mainly because of the bhature. Reminiscent of Stewie Griffin’s head in both size and shape, it was an impressive sight to behold as it was carried to the table, many a fellow diner stopped mid-mouthful to gawk and pass comment. As theatrical as it was, it tasted even better. Not that you can ever really go wrong with fried bread, this delectable balloon was pure indulgence and I would have happily made a meal of these alone. As for the naan, it only suffered by comparison to its bready brethren simply because it lacked the grandeur and spectacle; it still tasted just as good.
While I have no doubt that there may be cheaper Indian dining eateries in the city, I doubt few others can match this one in terms of charm and culinary calibre.
