Really disappointing - Edit
Having read the reviews I was really excited to visit sanctuary and travelled an hour each way to go. When we arrived it took the waiter 10 mins to come out from the back (the place was empty) and another 5 minutes to bring us a menu. He then took out order whilst he served the one customer a coffee which he then forgot and had to re ask us our order again.
Read morewe ordered garlic mushrooms- there was no garlic on them just a plate of buttoned mushrooms and onion rings- which were clearly frozen onion rings- no fresh onion in them just a mush and no crisp to the batter. However we kept positive about the burgers
The main came and I had the hippo refuge burger and my friend the chicken nana- big as disappointing as each other. Each came with 7chips that had clearly been fried previously and then re- fried again for us- they were see through bar the oil- no fluffy potato. The burger buns tasted old- no freshness in bite.
We both left half our burgers. So disappointing having red previous reviews and can't even put it down to being busy as we were the only ones eating
Pros: None
Cons: Food wasn't fresh , Not what described as, Rude service
-Sanctuary-
We always welcome constructive feedback and criticism, however the same cannot be said about destructive inaccuracies
Read more- Garlic mushrooms: we can certainly confirm that our garlic mushrooms DO have garlic, plenty of it, as our Chef cooks them in our homemade garlic butter. Perhaps they weren’t “garlicky” enough for you as you may like very strong garlic taste, which is a personal preference. Stating that “there was no garlic on them” is simply not true.
- Burgers: the correct names of the burgers you mention are Hippo Rampage and Chicken Nada, no Hippo Refuge and Chicken Nana as you wrongfully state. One quick look at our social media channels is enough for anyone to see how often these burgers have been labelled as “The Best Vegan Burgers,” specially our Hippo Rampage, which is our number one bestseller. Obviously, taste is a personal thing and you are entitled to disagree.
- Chips: your point is CATEGORICALLY FALSE, as we NEVER re-fry our chips or wedges. This is something that would go against our policy and branding. They are cooked ONCE and that’s all.
-Buns: this is FALSE. We get a daily delivery of buns, so we can assure you that they are as fresh as they can get.
- Our staff: one of the main things that our customers note as a positive is precisely how nice, friendly & informative our staff is. Our staff were carefully selected, love their jobs, are passionate about veganism and, without any single doubt, they are not rude.
- Waiting time: regarding your alleged waiting time, we have checked about this both with our Manager, who served you, and our Head Chef, and can confirm that it isn’t true that you were waiting for 10 mins before being served.
- Pros & Cons: We were rather surprised to see that, as a supposedly fellow vegan, failed to even find one positive point about us. From a vegan perspective, leaving food aside, Sanctuary has, undoubtedly, many positive points, such as our regular donations to animal sanctuaries, the pictures of sanctuary animals saved from slaughter on our walls, the emphasis we put on educating the public on all aspects and benefits of veganism -health/nutrition/fitness (Sanctuary was created by Detox-Fit, fitness and nutrition professionals)- animal ethics, environmental issues and so on, and perhaps even just the fact that all our staff is vegan.
It’s a shame that you felt so disappointed and negative about Sanctuary, that you felt compelled to even create an account on Happy Cow just to write about it.
