An oddly loney way to eat 4 vegetables - Edit
I was excited to come here and try the evening foraged taster menu. For some reason however, the vegetarian/vegan menu can only be 5 plates while the meat one is 7. If you come here with meat-eaters, this guarantees you some silence as you watch everyone eating extra meat plates as you twiddle your thumbs waiting for your next half a vegetable.
Read moreThe first two dishes I had were actually excellent. Tasted so good- filled with interesting flavours- mushroom pate and seaweed crackers, then asparagus. The next two were just fine. A bit mediocre, but then I'm not used to waiting for everyone to finish their meat before I can have a single betroot, followed by a plate of celeriac slices. I would have had my only protein of the meal if the miso tiramisu was vegan, but instead there was a vegan donut that was too sweet for me.
I understand the dishes have a foraged element, but given that there are exceptions for beef, crab, fish, etc, it would be nice if the veggie menu regularly had some protein in it. A bean or a square of tofu perhaps.
I think the realisation that the 2 dishes I loved were also on the meat menu, solidified for me that this was definitely a by-meat-eaters for-meat-eaters experience, and vegetarians (and certainly vegans) are a bit of an inconvenient afterthought. I felt like I was intruding on everyone else's nice meal, and my dishes felt few and underwhelming.
Pros
Killer mushroom cracker things. Wish i could have had 5 plates of those
The gins were nice
Cons
Makes you feel like a depressed rebel teen at a family christmas turkey dinner. Makes one wonder if the chefs have met a vegetarian before.
Not very filling. I left thinking of the leftover spag bol in my fridge.
Some uninteresting dish choices and flavours, (seasonally (although I went in summer??)) consisting of mostly root vegetables.

Fabulous wild and plant forward food - Edit
We’ve eaten dinner, breakfast and lunch here several times and the food is, without exception, fantastic! It’s plant-forward, locally sourced, lots of foraged herbs and seaweeds and they always have a lot of vegan dishes.
Read moreFor breakfast try the Lava rustic beans, the tofu bites and the wild garlic mushrooms (we had these in April)
For dinner try everything vegan on the menu - there will be no disappointment.
Pros: The choice of vegan options, The fabulous, knowledgeable staff, The airy upcycled interior

Wow! Punchy flavours - Edit
1/2 to 2/3 of the lunch menu was vegan or had a vegan version (and didn’t miss out on taste). Generous ‘small plates’ / tapas style. We had fresh made falafel with broad bean dipping sauce, the best baba ganoush I have ever had, roasted new potatoes with fresh garlic mayo , salad dressed with flowers and a grainy sourdough with olive oil and balsamic dipping sauce. It was all very fresh and amazing to taste.

Highly recommended - Edit
Amazing and very creative menu with more vegan options than usual. The chef is a genious - I loved the small plates, tappas-inspired lunch ideas. The coffee is also very good and the oat-apple-slices with seaweed were oh-so-good!

incredible tasting menu - Edit
My partner and I went to the really wild emporium for our anniversary and had the tasting menu. It was absolutely incredible. The food is locally grown/foraged and the servers let you know where everything is from!

Very different experience! - Edit
We’ve never been to a foraging restaurant before and it was a revelation! You can order the vegan, vegetarian or a meat taster menu which is 6 courses of beautifully presented food (£45) The chef came and chatted to us at the start of the evening and explained how it all worked then the staff explained each dish and what had been foraged (and often from where). The food was excellent, the staff were very friendly and the decor was lovely and rustic. Definitely need to book for the evening and when we visited they were only offering this on a Thursday & Friday but this increases during the high season. Would definitely recommend- a great night with great food!

Excellent Vegan breakfast - Edit
Of three options for breakfast, one is fully vegan and lovely. Proof that taste does not have to be sacrificed.
