Quick, cheap and tasty - Edit

My sister and I found this little gem on our trip to the pool at River Gate. We found the place in a smaller street but the signage was correct. As long as you know the word "chay" in Vietnamese, you generally find vegetarian options quite easily. We went here initially just for lunch but returned in the evening for another batch of delicious food. I had the satay, the banh mi and she had the sweet and sour rice. I really liked the mock meats, they looked and tasted good. I'm not a big fan of their drinks, I ordered the aloe vera juice and it was a small bottle, not sweet enough for me. For someone with less of a sweet tooth it may be fine. The food was fast and fantastic. I would recommend anyone to go here, especially since it's so close to the backpacker district.
Banh Mi: 15K
Satay noodles: 30K
Sweet and Sour: 35K

Pros: fast, cheap, delicious even the day after

Cons: possibly a little unhygienic, but it's local so.., small unsweet drinks

Terrible. Avoid! - Edit

The worst food in Asia. I had curry with rice (30k dongs), small portion, nothing special. I also ordered sweet and sour rice (35k dongs), which was a disaster: the sauce was a cheap Uncle Ben's variety which was just too gluey, the dish was tasteless. One slice of mock meat per dish, a lot of fresh pepper in the sweet and sour. This was the worst food in Asia I've had and by far not the cheapest one. The service was terrible (even though the lady spoke some English), they just could not care less. In the middle of the meal the lady took away the spices I was using without saying a word. The bathroom is a moist, narrow and dirty prison cell... Stay away! I am giving them 2 stars only because I can't give one or none (as the place is vegan).

Pros: Location?

Cons: Food tasteless and too expensive, disastrous servi

Pretty good! - Edit

Great value - well the ready cooked buffet is (20k ). Nice vegan Bahn mi baguettes too for 15k dong. It's a cheap and tasty foreigner friendly place but at the same time very local. However, while I would describe it as clean, I did notice one or two things I would rather not have in terms of how stuff is handled - as is normal in Asia I guess, and did get a hair in my food on occasion.

Pros: Lots of choice. cheap tasty pre cooked food. , no MSG used, friendly staff

Cons: Not squeaky clean

Cheap and tasty - Edit

My first meal in Vietnam. I walked in and asked how it worked. He gave me a nice big pile of rice with 5 or 6 different things on top for 20000 dong. Avoid the bitter gourds if like me you are not a fan.

Pros: cheap, tasty, lots of variety

Great little spot - Edit

If you want tasty and cheap in Saigon, this is it. For 25k Dong you get a plate of rice plus 3 different options to choose among mock meats, vegetables and noodles. Every extra option you add goes for 5k. There is also a menu (15-40k range). Good English spoken. According to the waiter they open from 6am to 10pm. Will return today! (waitress recommended as her favourite the crispy fried noodle with veggies: 10k)

Delicious! - Edit

We ran into this little gem on the way to another restaurant and were glad we tried it. The food was really tasty- one of the more flavorful (and spicier) meals we had in Ho Chi Minh City. Definitely caters to locals, and the staff didn't speak English. They tried to be helpful, and got another customer to translate. Don't expect atmosphere; it's a hole in the wall on a busy street, but the food was absolutely worth it! (Note that you are charged for the wet naps! We were quite confused by this when we paid.)
