It Had Me Pur-ing

Despite often perusing their menu, I had been reluctant to order from this admittedly admirably long-established chain. My reticence was probably fuelled by my preference to seek out the smaller, independent eateries; not only to support them, but also to get what I surmise will be a more authentic dining experience. However, curiosity finally got the better of me, and I could no longer be content with window shopping this restaurant's wares – surely their longevity would be testament to their quality.
One of the unique factors about this company (that may well be a significant factor in their success) is their emphasis on the sweeter side of Indian cuisine. For me, this was an initial reason not to explore them further, as I assumed that this was all they offered and none would be suitable for vegans. Indeed, the latter part of this assumption was correct, but unbeknownst to me, their savoury selection was just as extensive.
Alongside a great breadth of familiar favourites, there were also a few distinctive offerings nestled among their number. One such dish – which actually proved to be my favourite of the whole feast – was the baked vada pav. Soft, unctuous, and ever so moreish, it was a real treat to see a refreshing twist on a classic, and the fact it was delicious didn’t hurt either.
Though this new upstart may well have taken the crown, the old guard by no means disappointed. The range of chholes were exemplary, the bhel puri was superb, and the gobi paratha was so good I essentially inhaled it. Truthfully, the standard of food was almost flawless across the board; the only slight caveat to this was the Singapore fried rice. Not awful by any means, but it suffered in comparison to everything else.
Going into this meal, there was a small part of me secretly hoping that it would be somewhat lacking so that I could ignore the siren call of being tempted to dine from here again. Alas, this was far from the case, and I now have to reconcile with that fact that I will be returning, and probably very soon.
