Delicious, healthy restaurant in town

Food is delicious: tried coconut curry, bakes and salad. The owner and the staff are very passionate and knowledgeable about vegan food and resonate nice vibes. Choice of ingredients and recipes is very careful and healthy. All is fresh and prepared on site: not the usual pre packed fake meat. Venue is cosy and relaxing and well presented, on the garden terrace of an historical church. A pleasure overall.

Pros: Quality of ingredients , Recipes , Venue

Beautiful, healthy food.

I had the oyster mushroom on sourdough toast and it was delicious. Came with a really lovely side salad too. Will definitely be back to try other dishes.

A must try, food was unreal…!

Mark waited on our table and was an absolute delight to speak to. His knowledge of his menu, the food and the concepts really made this our experience pleasurable. It was a tad chilly when we went so the tomato bisque was a must and it did not disappoint! We also tried the banana bread and babaganoush which were equally great!

If you’re looking for a place with great food, great service away from the hustle and bustle this place is it!

Amazing place!

Pulse offers an absolute fantastic and tasty vegan menu. The place is very charming and the staff is really lovely and helpful. You can really feel that they run this restaurant with heart and soul. Highly recommended! My non-vegan friends loved it as well.

The best food

I really recommend Pulse as I think it have the best vegan food in the city. Affordable, amazing diverse menu, passionately involved owners, stunning location (tucked below the church away from Princes street). Excellent choice for a casual meal or something special. While I went in for a casual meal it would be an outstanding venue for something species- think anniversary dinner, birthday dinners etc.

Longer review⤵️

I discovered this place after seeing a review featuring a healthy salad pic on the Vegan Edinburgh Facebook group. I was desperate for a whole food’s after a week of eating meal deals. I went here without really looking too much into the menu or pictures.

The space is gorgeous and tucked under an Eve of a church with iconic Edinburgh views with a welcoming upscale atmosphere. Hands down, it was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in the city after trying almost every vegan restaurant in the city.

Co-owner Ayeshé curated after speaking with the two I found she has honed her culinary skills from living around the world and studying a range of cuisines.

The menu reflects the international approach as each dish is created to be clean, healthy, and most of all so good!! I really found it unique that you didn’t see the common, I think worn-out, vegan options you see everywhere else (e.g., something to do buffalo cauliflower or vegan Impossible burgers). The meals were distinctively innovative and I found it to be a very elegant dining experience. They have very nourishing meals and are health conscious in that they minimize added sugars etc.
I had a quince desert and it was light a filling balance of natural sweetness.

Mark and Ayeshé have created a truly unique dining experience. Go support them now before there’s lines out the door.

Healthy, creative and super tasty food. Lovely surroundings, hidden in a quiet spot near busy Lothian Road, staff very friendly.

Perfect!

Greeted by lovely enthusiastic staff and when I went there was a really chilled atmosphere. Really good menu for people wanting something a bit more natural and tasty. I had the leek and potato soup which was gorgeous and I’m pretty sure I could have eaten a whole carton of the homemade herb butter! It’s relatively new and I could hear the owner asking a mother with a baby how they could improve the experience for parents. Loved it.

Healthy + very tasty

What a lovely break from the usual vegan fast food places you’d find in town. Sometimes I’m worried that healthy vegan places just serve bland salads, but it’s not the case here. Every dish is so carefully crafted, and absolutely delicious. My only wish is they had a slightly bigger menu overall and just better (sweeter) dessert options

Pros: Cozy vibes, Lovely staff

Fresh, vegan, delicious and a cool vibe with nice staff

I usually like to play it safe when I eat out. I've been vegan for years now but can't escape falling back to something meaty and getting vegan sausages or beyond burgers when I'm out.

I'm so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and gave Pulse a try. This is what vegan food should be. All fresh ingredients and no refined sugars.

Me and my partner had a savoury traybake and potato salad, red lentil bites and for dessert a chocolate mousse and banana bread. While that list may not sound extravagant - there was more to all of it than it sounds. We really enjoyed it all - especially the mousse (which I was probably the most hesitant to go for).

I also had a fruit tea, which, I admit, I didn't know existed, and thoroughly enjoyed as well.

Pros: All vegan, delicious, fancy, affordable , Wonderful vibe, Very welcoming owner and staff

Wonderful

Just off Princes Street and well situated for Haymarket and Waverley Station. And what a breath of fresh air from the norm. Excellent real food and very friendly staff with everything freshly made on site. From the daily specials there were 3 very interesting salads on the menu with a barley and sour cherries plate being my favourite. These change regularly. I then had the slow cooked banana and passion fruit jam served on rye bread for my sweet. Wonderfully tasty and without any extra sugars. They have limited the number of fixed dishes on the menu with enough daily specials to ring the changes and reduce waste. An excellent find.

Pros: No refined sugars., Inventive salads, reasonable prices

Cons: Toilet next door, Disabled access difficult due to steps

We can’t thank you enough for your kind words and your thoughtful response to what we are trying to do here at PULSE. Your reflections are indeed music to our ears! FYI as we are located under St John’s Church, we have two entrances. The Princes Street entrance is in fact a ramp. Thank you again for taking the time to support us. We appreciate you.

Lovely healthy vegan food

A very welcome addition to Edinburgh's city centre. It's a little off the beaten path but still pretty central and a handy location that's close to Princes Street.

The salads are fantastic, really tasty and its nice to have something a bit different from the usual vegan junk food offering.

A great place for lunch and well worth a visit

Tempting choice

An exciting new vegan restaurant which has very reasonable almost cordon vert style food. I only had a delicious cake and drink this time. The location could be better as it is at the bottom of steep steps, and the toilets (very clean and spacious) are in another café next door.

Pros: Varied and tempting vegan menu

Cons: Poor location.

Friendly cafe with plant-based foods

The menu is small right now and doesn’t have a lot of gluten-free items, but the salad I had was delicious! They make feta cheese out of almonds and it is actually very good.

Pros: Vegan options

Cons: Small menu, Needs more gluten-free items

Best tasting food in Edinburgh

The food here was incredible. Everything is so tasty and you can tell it's made with love. I had the traybakes with two salads £12.50 (one had delicious almond feta on top!) and the banana bread £2.50. Will definitely be back!
