Pastranomical - Edit
A beautiful plant-based pasta restaurant in central Manchester. Freshly made and steaming hot dishes infused with unique flavours and creativity. We had a Napoli which had lashings of rich tomato base with capers, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic, olive oil and black olives and a Catalonia prepared with spaghetti verde and chunks of apricot, Spanish chorizo, rosemary and spicy harissa. They were outstanding and portion sizes were excellent. Dishes are around £15 but if you go during the week you’ll get a lunchtime deal for a tenner.

very nice - Edit
The staff was very friendly and the meal was very good. I liked the carbonara pasta, but the Napoli one wasn't as good. Also the appetizer, loaded gnocchi, was not what I expected taste wise. The biscoff dessert was quite nice. All in all, very glad that such a vegan place exists, but it's not somewhere where I would come back all the time.

Excellent! - Edit
I shall start saying that I am not a pasta fan and eat is as quick to prepare and cheap meal, I can’t tell the difference in taste is it shop bought or handmade. But last night’s dinner was very good! We ordered 2 different dishes and both were excellent! One with chorizo and one with chicken pieces. Hi were mine (chorizo) had dried apricots, they were so finely chopped I couldn’t taste it - that was the main reason for choosing this dish so slightly disappointed. Also found both dishes massively over salted. That’s before adding cashew Parmesan that was super salty too.

Cons: Way too salty, I don’t think pasta dish should cost £15 and over, In a simple restaurant

I'm so happy to have found this place practically on my doorstep. It's a refreshing change to all the vegan junk food places in Brighton.

EDIT: well this is a bit of a scam - this was my review of the Manchester branch! - Edit
My review of Manchester is below. They've closed the Manchester branch, refuse to answer any questions about it on Instagram, and have seemingly just taken all their reviews of Manchester and changed the listing to Brighton instead. I guess that's the thing you can do if you pay HappyCow to promote you. Ahem.
Read moreAnyway, RIP Manchester. Here's how it was:
The best pasta I've ever had, vegan or otherwise
My third visit - twice here, once in Barcelona. Every time it's the best Italian food I've ever had, by a distance. It's fast becoming my favourite restaurant.
Get the fried gnocchi. Whether in mushroom sauce, or as part of a salad. Perhaps in the shiitake mushroom Caesar salad - the best salad I've had in my life. I've never had shiitake like it, it was like clumps of beef.
Sage and pumpkin tortellini - outstanding. The summer special variant - fiorentine creme spinach torteloni - outstanding. Both take a while to get into. Both are still lingering in my memory as the best of their kind.
The cashew parmesan is like crack. It's a masterpiece. Added to the simple rocket salad elevates it into something incredible. Today I discovered I could use the cashew parmesan to mop up the last of the oily sauce of the tortellini. I stopped myself after two massive teaspoonfuls. But I wish I hadn't!
Biscoff doughnuts - an instant classic. Just unbelievably good.
And get this. Yesterday they made a couple of minor mistakes on my order. It was a slight irritation, nothing more - I've had far worse gone uncorrected. They were immensely apologetic and comped the whole thing. I've never seen customer service like it. So I returned today and was treated like royalty, with all my booze comped and some other stuff too.
Yeah it's not cheap. Well Pret's about 50% more than it was pre-lockdown. Suck it up buttercups - that's reality these days. £15 a plate for food of this quality is totally worth it.
They are doing something very very right here. They're opening another in Brighton next week. Here's hoping there's plenty more. Because vegan food of this incredibly high standard needs spreading around.

The loaded gnocchi, pasta, and mini biscoff-filled donuts are amazing. So nice to try fresh pasta for the first time as it's hard to find any vegan fresh pasta.

Best food ever!!! - Edit
Been wanting to go to Pastan in London for a while now and was so excited when I found out it opened in Brighton!! I wasn't disappointed whatsoever, this place is incredible. The team was amazing (Kadar
Read moreLaurynas & Alex) - so attentive, friendly and really quick service. We ordered 7 main pasta dishes and all 7 arrived on our table within a minute despite there being only one chef and a full restaurant🙌🙌 My favourite dish was the Firenze (spinach and ricotta tortelloni was my favourite dish before being vegan) so I've been trying lots of vegan alternatives since and I've never had any this close to tasting like dairy. 7 pieces of pasta for £14 is quite expensive, however the size of the pasta was larger than expected and the taste of the pasta and the sauce somehow justified the price for me. I also had the cheeseboard and the cheese was the best vegan cheese I've ever had - so similar to dairy cheese for me and the onion marmalade complimented the cheeses so well. I also had loaded gnocchi with the pomodoro sauce and the sauce was so simple yet the best tomato sauce I've ever had. The only dish I wouldn't order again was The comfort you mac and cheese - I am a Big Mac and cheese fan and I was slightly underwhelmed as it was delicious but I wouldn't of guessed it was meant to be macaroni cheese because of the lack of cheese flavour, it was like a delicious creamy pasta. My table loved the Umami Stroganoff and the Dolce Vita. We bought a meat eating friend with us who tried the Formentera and she said that was the first time she's tried a vegan meat substitute and actually had to remind herself it wasn't from an animal as it tasted so surreal. We also had the Smooth Operator which probably wouldn't be ordered again as I don't think the taste is justified for the £16.90 price, I would recommend choosing the Firenze over the pumpkin and sage pasta. I had an elderflower spritz cocktail which was amazing (and I'm a big fan of elderflower spritzs!!) and I also had the chocolate orange espresso martini and that tasted exactly like a melted terrys chocolate orange😫😫 They didn't have all the desserts on the menu as the online menu - no Tirimisu!! However we had the cheeseboard again and biscoff mini donuts which we loved. I am not a wine drinker at all however I had a glass of Vermentino and it was the best white wine I've ever tasted!! I would highly highly recommend this place, it's so great that vegan food can be so delicious

Nice pasta but... - Edit
I was hoping the pasta would be homemade, instead they use La Tua Pasta which you can buy on Amazon Fresh... So that was a bit disappointing. Also, the sauces it came with (apart from the mushroom one) were insipid.

Comfort food - Edit
Ordered the loaded gnocchi with peppercorn sauce, umami stroganoff, and green velvet.
Read moreThis is wholesome, rib-sticking comfort food. Of course I would recommend the fried gnocchi. There is not a gnocchi in the world I have met and disliked. The stroganoff was chewy thick pasta served with an unctuous salty mushroom sauce which could have really used the lift of fresh herbs instead of being topped with mild pea shoots. The green velvet ravioli was served thick and al dente with a sprinkling of peas and pea shoots (obligatory pea shoots, perhaps). I asked if they served coffee and was told they serve espresso. They brought me a small bucket of what can only be described as bittersweet rocket fuel. This perfectly counterbalanced the thick weight of pasta in my body by giving me the distinct feeling that all of my limbs were moving at the speed of light.
Decent ambiance even if they're afflicted with the vegan restaurant curse of a collection of fake plants on every surface. The servers are nice and helpful. I think on balance I prefer my pasta rolled thinner and served hotter but it is nice to see an inventive all-vegan menu regardless😄
Access: there is a step up to the door but they can provide a ramp; the toilets are down some narrow steps in the basement. Dog friendly.

Overpriced salads. Should have tried the pasta - Edit
Small cute restaurant however the serving size for the price was slightly surprising. We went for lunch so was looking for something light to eat and ordered the bok choy, asparagus prawn salad which was okay but wasn’t anything special. The chickpea salad wasn’t much better, confused as to why there’s cinnamon sticks on top as garnish as well as it definitely didn’t go with the dish. Perhaps we would have had a better experience if we ordered pasta.

The food here was absolutely amazing. The tuna ceaser salad blew my mind I have no idea how they got the taste so spot on! All of it was just gorgeous. It’s very small and has a bit of a cafe vibe so lacks a little bit of atmosphere for a restaurant but the food more than makes up for it!

Pleasant, although a bit overpriced - Edit
Great ice-cream for dessert, especially the lime and avocado. Whilst the savory food presentation and the taste were ok, I was a bit underwhelmed, especially since others had rated it so highly. I thought the carbonara could've been more creamy and tasty. The pasta parcels were quite nice. The team were pleasant. Overall ok but I felt it was overpriced for the experience.

Good but pricey - Edit
We ordered the ravioli in green sauce, Caesar salad, and Biscoff donuts. The Caesar was quite good and a little different, topped with vegan tuna, nuggets, and deep fried gnocchi. We enjoyed the donuts too. The ravioli was a little chewy as it was slightly undercooked. Good food but it's pricey for what it is, especially with the added 12.5% gratuity (which is pretty steep for a regular restaurant in the UK).

Worth the visit - Edit
The venue is quite small and cramped, situated in the old Vertigo plant based building. Open kitchen which seems to work! The decor is beautiful too.
Read moreWe had the tomato loaded gnocchi which was exceptional, topped with crispy onions. The carbonara pasta itself was a great texture and the ‘bacon’ was incredible and really flavourful but the sauce left a lot to be desired. Felt a little bland - extra salt and pepper needed with a good sprinkle of the cashew parmesan.
Of course, the biscoff donuts are to die for - very rich! I couldn’t eat more than 3 but wish I could
All in all, the pasta was expensive for us to need to add our own seasoning and they had run out of a few things we wanted but I would definitely return again and get a different dish😄
Pros: Delicious food , Service, Lovely decor
Cons: Small cramped venue, Wobbly tables, Stock issues
