i understand this is a chain that is probably trying to appeal to a larger crowd, but they do not meet the mark. ordered the vegan version of the strawberry shortcake donut. i assumed it would be the same type of donut they use for the non-vegan just with different ingredients, but it wasn’t. seemed stale with all the toppings just thrown on top in a bag.
As a disclaimer, the vegan doughnut is the same as the gluten-free doughnut, and according to the case they were in, they also triple as doggy doughnuts? So, this is not a flaky, chewy, high-quality yeast doughnut like the rest of the ones available at the shop. It's kind of a soft, mushy cake doughnut with a strange sour taste inside, and half the size of the non-vegan ones, which they just dress up with different glazes or sparse toppings to make the different "flavors". Compared to the non-vegan doughnuts at this store, these are seriously lacking.
A word of caution, if you try to order the "maple bacon donut" which the server had confirmed can be made vegan, they will put real bacon on it. There's no veggie bacon at Parlor Doughnuts. I guess it was my bad for thinking that an item sold as vegan wouldn't have actual pig on it.
