Olu’ve Got to Try This - Edit
Captivated, enthralled, and mystified - these three words perfectly encapsulate my initial foray into this stunning piece of the planet. The first is for the natural beauty that is so wonderfully pervasive, the second is for the vibrancy, warmth and charm of the people, and third is for, of course, the driving. I know that is a review of a restaurant, but it would have been entirely remiss of me not to at least reference something of my journey to my destination given how taken I was with it all.
Read moreAdmittedly, the restaurant I had chosen as my inaugural dining destination could be considered far too polished and somewhat pedestrian as an introduction to a country and a cuisine that holds so much promise, but I tell you upfront that there was nothing workaday about it.
Set in simply stunning surroundings, the only thing that could match the outlook was the level of service. Absolutely unparalleled from anything that I experienced before, even making the impeccable standards I’ve grown accustomed to in the UAE seem mediocre by comparison.
That being said, the food did a more than respectable job of keeping pace. In terms of both breadth of options and sheer quality, it’s hard for me to recall having had much better. From remarkable local specialties such as the hoppers and sago porridge, to the perfectly executed array of Indian offerings, there was pure joy to be found at every turn. It would truly be a fool’s errand to even embark on the process of selecting one item for particular praise.
Post-meal, my driver informed me that this eatery is a sought after booking for both tourists and locals alike, and it patently obvious to see why. Though it sits firmly in the upper price bracket by regional standards, it more than justifies the cost. Effusive praise comes easily here, and my recommendation even more so.
