How often do you get to have a healthy veg meal and at the same time support an important cause? This restaurant is part of a program that provides formerly justice involved community members and people with employment barriers, training and second chance employment opportunities. The space is located where CORE Kitchen used to be at City Center in the heart of downtown Oakland and is a lively spot for an outdoor lunchtime meal. Locally sourced, whole food, almost entirely plant based with the exception of a dairy yogurt breakfast item and a honey based dressing, both of which can be substituted easily. We tried all three of their bowls and all were winners. The Beet Bowl had the freshest, salad-like contents with crisp apples and sweet potatoes over greens and quinoa. The Autumn Bowl was a HUGE serving worthy of sharing with a healthy dose of Brussel sprouts, butter nut squash, and quinoa. My favorite was the BBQ jackfruit bowl with a great combo of avocado, black beans, jackfruit and greens. We'll definitely be going back to try the salads! Parking is easily available in nearby garages but aren't cheap, and metered parking is available, but BART would be super convenient.
