Great coffee and dessert, not so great food - Edit
First of all, the buffee wasn't all vegan, it even had fish and meat, so I really want to give it only one cow. The food was of varying quality. Some things were okey, but unfortunately most of it was pretty bland and not very exciting to taste or look at. Staff was great, but the place was not very cosy.
The coffee was awesome and together with an all vegan chocolate mousse it was the highlight of the dinner! My tip is to come here for desserts and coffee, but eat your dinner someplace else..
I found this restaurant on the Internet a few months ago, when it was still 100% vegan, but only got to visit it a few days ago. Since I wasn't aware of their new policy, I was shocked to find out that nowadays they also serve meat, with two dishes already included in the price of the buffet, and more available on request.
I cannot speak for the quality of the meat dishes, but the vegan food I ate was awful: I tried several dishes, and invariably found them to be bland and unappealing. The vegetable tartlets were chewy and almost uneatable, the pumpkin and tofu curry tasted funny... I'd have tried a dessert, but I was so put off by the rest of the meal that I instead decided to leave. Their poor attempt at attracting more customers by offering meat options just made the matter worse.
It seems that this place has changed since it opened. It hasn't been around all that long either, but when I went there a couple of months ago it was 100% vegan. The explanation on their facebook page is that they started offering fish and meat dishes but are still largely vegan (95%) because they were lacking customers. It's a shame, but understandable in the current economic climate, especially here in Portugal.
About the food, well, sadly it wasn't that enjoyable either. The flavours were bland, the quality not great, and the combinations somewhat strange. The way I see it, the problem with buffets is that you pay, you eat, and if you're disappointed you still eat a lot, and they still get rid of the food, but perhaps don't learn/care what's popular.
Staff were very pleasant, and I did go there in a very large group, but as it's a buffet, quality shouldn't suffer just because the restaurant is almost full.
I said I'd go back and give it a second chance, since an all vegan restaurant is a rarity round here, but since they've changed their policy, I'm not so tempted anymore.
