I’m a big fan! - Edit
Just moved here from Los Angeles and we had zero-waste stores but nothing as comprehensive as Nada. I’m a huge fan after just one visit. From food to pantry to beauty to kitchen, the environmentalist in me is LIVING! And there are so many Ⓥ products. I didn’t have a hard time figuring out which items were or weren’t vegan so I’m good. Bring more jars and veggie bags than you even think you could use because there is SO MUCH to choose from. They do have clean jars from donations and you can donate your jars too at a certain time/day of the week.

Needs to have better vegan protocols, less meat, dairy - Edit
UPDATE: I’m dropping my review two stars now that I have used Nada for a year and found other businesses doing the same thing better. Their lack of vegan-friendliness and inability to understand customer experience is the TLDR.
Read moreThey implemented a service packaging only (no store entry, no self pack) policy because of the pandemic (that’s reasonable) but most of the recycled packaging I have ended up with are dairy and meat of some variety, so they aren’t sensitive to dietary restrictions and I think it says a lot about who shops there and donates those plastic upcycled Philly cream cheese containers. I find this really off putting and it made reflect on how eating and selling dairy and meat is as far removed from zero waste as you can be. What of all the blood, bones, and organs they don’t carry in their shop and their patrons don’t eat?
They apologized for bottling my vegan egg nog in a pickled herring jar (photo) last November and sent me a $5 credit (the nog was $12). I then didn’t order anything for 7 months feeling pretty burned and when I did, they chased me for a 7 weeks emailing to collect a $4 bottle deposit on a hummus substitution they made and chose to place in one of their $4 jar (which btw are also recycled). They are loosening up a bit and you can now order some stuff at the window and I don’t know if they’ll take your own packaging, but I’ve switched to ordering from Jarr (zero waste) and LivLite (low waste) delivery only shops. Neither of them are 100% vegan but they have far fewer animals products than Nada.
After the 2-3 emails demanding $4 for the jar I did not order, I asked them to use the $5 credit and then returned the stupid jar the next day. It will take a lot to ever get me to shop with them again. I will probably wait for the pandemic to completely pass for me to be able to use my own containers and not have to deal with substitutions with little notice.
Last year’s review:
Surprised to see this place has 5 stars since they sell animal flesh. I’m not sure if they were previously all vegan or HappyCow changed. That said, I’m glad to have it in business with plenty of vegan options but wish they would label the vegan items on their website more thoroughly. Some say vegan in the title. Others say “egg-free, dairy-free” in the description, which isn’t necessarily vegan. An allergy labeling key would be best. The hummus and vegan marshmallow ice cream sandwiches are wonderful.

Some items more expensive here - Edit
It was good to stock up on tofu without all the waste, however, I filled up an old 1kg container of Peanut Butter and it was 3X more than what I would pay for just buying a new container.
Read moreI want to support the zero waste concept, but there are some items ridiculously priced that I cannot justify spending.
Pros: Wide selection of staple items

Vegan for the animals meets vegan for the environment - Edit
Nada is an innovative and inviting shop. It's fantastic to be able to buy not just the expected vegan bulk staples like beans, pasta, and rice, but also less common items like hummus, tapenade, and vegan yoghurt without any plastic! I was especially delighted to find vegan gummy candies without plastic packaging! Overall the shop is bright and fun and they've done a great job of making it very clear which products are vegan.
