Serves meat, vegan options available. Chain of licensed Mexican bar and restaurants founded 1978 in Burleigh Heads QLD. Uses Sorona-style recipes, and atmosphere is family casual. The updated vegan menu (shown online) offers a variety of choices: dips, tostadas, nachos, burritos, tacos, fajitas, multiple combination platters, and a few desserts. Uses plant-based alternatives in the vegan food, like vegan cheese and sour cream, mock chicken and beef, coconut cream. The house guacamole, hot sauce dip, frijole dip (without the cheese) are vegan. Ask for vegan beer/wine. Open Mon-Sun 11:30am-2:00pm, 5:00pm-9:30pm.

I ordered from the ‘vegan/vegetarian’ menu the vegan meat dish - obviously from the vegan menu and even said to the waitress - ‘vegan beef’ - but was given a plate of real beef/ sour cream/cheese. When I asked why, she told me they didn’t have the vegan beef available. I ended up reordering something else (which was super mediocre/way overpriced).

Mexican food made Vegan! - Edit
Montezumas has delicious Mexican food which can be made vegan! Offers vegan cheese and refried vegan beans. Family orientated and friendly staff. Nachos are my fave so I was very pleased they offered a vegan option.

Great to see a good size vegan menu. Vegan sour cream and cheese with mock meats available. I don’t eat mock meats, beans do the job for me.
Read moreWould order the burrito again but they put too much sour cream inside, so wouldn’t bother with the sour cream next time as it would be more enjoyable without. Cheese was nice. All the food has always been fresh and enjoyable.

This Mexican restaurant has vegan cheese, vegan sour cream and vegan meat alternatives! ***ATMOSPHERE: It’s best to get there early because it does get busy. The tables are very close together and it’s pretty loud. The wait staff are very friendly but not very experienced and the service is slow, they also forgot things and we had to remind them. ***FOOD: We started with the nachos and added all the extras like jalapeños, guacamole, vegan sour cream etc and they were amazing!! Then I ordered an enchilada and it tasted exactly the same as the nachos except rolled in a soft tortilla... Not worth it at all. I wish I’d just stuck with the nachos and made it a big portion. We also asked for hot sauce and when we asked where it was, we were told the chefs make it from scratch... Nice idea but they should have it ready to go or offer a bottle of Tapatio. ***DESSERT: I didn’t have room for a churro but they looked good. We had margaritas to drink, not a fan of the blended style but the shaken was ok... Just expensive!

They have a separate vegetarian and vegan menu with the vegan items clearly labelled. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the vegan options. I had the tacos with vegan cheese, vegan sour cream and guacamole. The meal tasted delicious and I'd recommend it.
