Decent Indian Cuisine - Edit
Nice veggie place. Large servings and pretty good vegan Dahl and curry. Would be better if the potato bake was vegan!

Mostly Vegetarian - Edit
There are usually a few vegan options available at Govinda’s Coolangatta.
Read moreIt’s a small restaurant with limited seating. It’s more suited to a quick grab and go, casual type of restaurant.
Food is pre-made on site in the kitchen and displayed in bain marie food warmers.
Order at the counter.
Prices are reasonable and we think that’s the best characteristic of this spot.

Pros: A few vegan options available daily, time limited but free street parking nearby, and a casual dining experience.
Cons: Limited seating at peak hour, not as many vegan options as other Govinda’s, and some may dislike the ‘queue to order’ setup.

Loved it! - Edit
We discovered Govindas on the Happy Cow app this week and really enjoyed our meal there. I had a delicious veg curry and a lentil dhal with rice, and shared a serving of koftas.

Amazing value! - Edit
Small, medium and large plates are $12, $14 and $17 respectively. You choose a range of pre-prepared options from the counter so it’s super speedy. The dish names are written on the glass with a V for the vegan options, at least half are vegan and include things like dal, pumpkin veg curry, Thai curry, tofu broccoli salad or pesto pasta salad.
Read moreThe large plates are actually huge, I had a medium and still struggled to finish it! For a buffet option, the food was a good temperature and all seemed super fresh. Fave dishes were the kofta and the pesto pasta, so good 👌🏼
Pros: incredibly cheap, generous portions, quick
Cons: not 100% vegan

A Vegetarian Dream - Edit
Govindas have a reputation for consistently delicious meals in my opinion. I’ve been to many Govindas shops and I always have a great dining experience and the newest addition to the southern end of the GC is no exception.
Read moreThey make healthy, well prepared meals and serve a variety of hot and fresh food options. They even make desserts! There’s an option for both dine-in and takeaway.
This particular shop is quite small and quaint but it never really feels over crowded. It’s got a nice ambient and the staff are friendly. If you would like though, the beach is only a couple of minutes walk away and you could get your food to take away and enjoy it there.
My personal favourite are the kofta balls (4 for $5). Perfectly crispy and goes really well with fresh rice and curry or a big serving of salad. They come with your own choice of chutney: tomato, satay or mango. The mango chutney is a must for me.
If you’re visiting the southern end of the GC, I highly recommend going in for a feed. There’s a lot of cafe options in the area but you should definitely add Govindas on your must visit list. Wonderful food for a reasonable price. Even better if you go with some friends and get a variety of options to share - there’s bound to be something for both vegetarians and vegans alike that you’ll end up coming back for.
Pros: Consistently great food, Good value for money
Cons: Maybe bigger serving for takeaway
