Nice atmosphere, decent food - Edit
I've been here twice, the first time on a Sunday only to find that they don't do the regular menu and only offer Sunday roasts. It was disappointing as I'd been keen to try the main menu, but I had one of the Sunday roast options - Beet Wellington - and it was lovely.
Read moreSecond visit was an evening midweek and finally tried the tapas. It wasn't as nice as I'd expected - some of the dishes were lovely (gyozas, wedges, arancini was quite nice) whereas others were kind of average (baba ganoush lacked flavour and very expensive for what it was, jackfruit pancakes were just ok, the creamy leek parcels didn't have much filling and only two of them).
The food wasn't hot enough when it arrived. Having read other reviews on here and Tripadvisor this seems to be a common theme. We didn't mention it as it would have meant redoing (or microwaving!) most of the dishes. The waitress made a remark when she served us that 'I hope you're hungry!' in reference to how much we'd ordered between two of us. But actually despite there being several dishes, I don't think it was loads of food at all - the portions are not large. I do think it's expensive for what it is.
I did find the staff tended to forget about us occasionally, we were at the end furthest away from the bar and they didn't check on us often. When our table finally got cleared the waitress didn't come back for the rest of the dishes, clearly having forgotten, so we spent far too long sitting with leftover plates hanging around. It's only small stuff but it adds up to the whole experience.
We had maple pecan pie with ice cream at the end and this was the highlight of the meal - it came steaming hot and it was just divine.
I'd go back again to try some other dishes, but I think it's best to go for drinks and get the food as bar snacks, or go during the day for coffee and cake - rather than going for a full evening meal. The atmosphere is nice, decor is lovely and they have a great selection of drinks.
Pros: Good variety of tapas style dishes, Nice decor, Lovely desserts
Cons: Expensive for small portions, Food wasn't hot enough, Some dishes sounded nicer than they were

Simply superb - Edit
I went there with family in November 2021, and everything was excellent. I don't remember exactly what we had, but I do remember enjoing every moment. The food, the drinks, the atmosphere, the staff -- I can only offer praise. And such a strong name in a highly visible location, too!

Amazing pie! - Edit
First time I’ve been! Would have been happy with anything on the menu but opted for pie of the day: curried cauliflower and chickpea. It was amazing!

Nice junk free food - Edit
A relaxed homely feel. There was a slight breeze but luckily we were seated near a heater. The food portions were generous and well presented. Disappointingly some of the food arrived only just warm, this included the pudding which was otherwise delicious. Great selection of beers, although a few were out of stock. Service was friendly but slow at times. May benefit from having more staff. Overall great to have another vegan restaurant serving junk free meals!

Could be better. - Edit
Food was luke-warm which was a real turn off - my plate was warmer than the food. Great concept as I don't care for vegan 'junk' food, but there's room for improvement to make this better.

Banging burger - Edit
We went for the Thursday burger deal. Burger wedges pint = £12.95. Also had the arancini. Both dishes were amazing. The wedges had a Chipotle spice which was delicious.

Our favourite place in Leeds to eat - Edit
I've eaten here a few times and it's never disappointed me. I've ordered food that I wasn't sure I'd enjoy, but it always turns out to taste amazing. Definitely our favourite place to eat out in the Leeds area

Excellent - Edit
I've been going to Meat is Dead since it opened & have loved everything I've tried on the menu. The menu has changed a few times and the variety, quality & flavour is always excellent. I particularly love the Sunday roasts, smoothies, desserts, breakfasts, special events & quiz nights. Perfect sized portions. Brilliant place with just the right amount of attention from friendly staff. Easy either casual or dressed up - good vibe. Dogs allowed which is a bonus. A great outside space for the warmer weather too. Thank you guys. Such a brilliant place.

Meat Is Dead is...dead - Edit
The food is SO bland. Completely tasteless. The mushroom dish literally just tasted like batter, the sweet potato fries tasted of oil and sogginess that is it. 3 of us ordered 3 separate beers and were told in turn that each beer was out of stock...
Read moreI like the idea of it, and I rate that it's genuine vegan food rather than trying to create the vegan version of meat/non vegan dishes. However, it simply doesn't taste good. Lacks a bit of atmosphere as well. We were all disappointed, nice idea but the food let's you down.
Luckily my bestie is the best cook ever, and she makes glorious vegan dishes, so I knew exactly what I was missing when I ate at Meat Is Dead. That's why it's so disappointing, because someone who wanted to try vegan food would be wholeheartedly put off veganism by coming here.
Vegans: it's not worth your time
Non vegans: I promise there is better vegan food out there do not be put off !! #Veganuary

Overpriced and lukewarm. - Edit
My title summed it all up really.
Read moreWill not be going back.
We ordered 3 dishes, one was the wedges. What was given was a bowl of lukewarm vegetables, mildly fried then spiced.
All told, overpriced food, small portions, aloof and unfriendly staff, and my companion's dish didnt even arrive complete :she had 10 minutes to wait for a tub of cold beans, freshly 'heated.'
Pros: Vegan
Cons: Price, Staff aloofness, Cold food.

Fab roast dinner - Edit
Very good vegan restaurant in Leeds. I had the baked butternut squash with nut cutlets. It was served with roasties, roots, red cabbage and cauliflower and broccoli cheese and finished off with onion gravy. The rest of the party had the special which was an Iranian stew.crumble and chocolate moose for pudding. Woukd definitely recommend.

Nice tapas style food - Edit
The restaurant is in a bit of a strange location and we weren't really sure where we could park. The food was tapas/small plates style and we had 5 plates between 2 which was about right for our dinner.
Read moreThe service was friendly and quick and the food was good, although a little bit expensive.

Nope, just nope - Edit
This is an expensive Tapas restaurant! The decor is barren and the service is poor. The waiter we had loitered every time he came to the table to attempt small talk which just felt awkward. The portion size were inconsistent and I found the food to be flavourless.

Tasty tapas style food - Edit
Visited here for my birthday lunch. The venue is lovely and huge. There wasn’t many people there when we first arrived but it got busier so created a nice atmosphere.
Read moreThe food options are tapas style portions, which is great as you get the chance to try multiple dishes. They also serve a wide range of soft, hot and alcoholic beverages.
My favourite dish was the jerk tofu and the Greek salad.
They also serve cakes and brownies which we also tried and were tasty.
It’s nice to have a vegan restaurant that serves food that isn’t junk food for a change. You could eat here for lunch and evening meal.
The only thing negative that I will say, is that it’s a little pricy for the size of the dishes and I overheard them telling some of the other customers that they had ran out of some of the dishes, but for a restaurant that has only been open a short while and just finding it’s feet it was well worth a visit!
Pros: Lot of options, Lovely venue, Tasty food
Cons: Quite pricey

Over priced - Edit
I visited meat is dead this afternoon to get my daughter some lunch. I order her the roasted root vegetables and battered oyster mushrooms. What came was a major disappointment. She was given a small plate of potatoes and carrots chopped into wedges (£4) and I was informed there was no oyster mushrooms and they only had field mushrooms, which was fine. When they arrived on another small plate she got 4 small slice battered mushrooms. (£7) she is only 10 and after spending £11 just for her, I had to take her home to feed her as she was still hungry. Not one meal was as stated on the menu. Over priced and very disappointed.

Friendly Vegan Restaurant - Edit
We visited on the first week of opening and the staff were so welcoming and friendly! What we were able to eat was a little limited since I am coeliac but the staff were helpful and what we ate was super tasty! I love that this isn't a junk food vegan place. The chai latte was absolutely wonderful and I really wish this restaurant lots of luck for the future - their passion for what they are doing is obvious!

1st time trying here and was dissapointed. Only option was the roast dinners meaning no starters or other mains. The roast was bland and luke warm. Chocolate mouse dessert was lovely but cake was dry. Would not go back sadly.
