Kind Staff But Lacking Execution - Edit
We popped over to Malama Cafe for breakfast today. Love that their menu identifies vegan items and vegan options but was hoping for better execution with the breakfast burrito made “vegan”. I got the Malama Smash but had to get it in a wrap because I’m allergic to whole wheat and I had asked for ciabatta instead but was informed that even though it’s listed under the VEGAN hummus bowl it apparently contains dairy. So does the sourdough for those wondering. I opted to instead put mine on a wrap and have it veganized (remove hard boiled egg) and they executed this fine after some discussion. My husband however was not so lucky, he SIMPLY (or so we thought) ordered the breakfast burrito veganized… Let me just say, if you offer the option to veganize something on your menu I’m the first person to appreciate it, but you HAVE to be able to execute. His wrap came with melted cheese on it… sigh… which of course he had to find out about by taking a bite. In summary, nice people, nice place, good food, lacks execution. Please be sure to talk through what you want with the staff when you order and maybe remind them to remove the cheese. They should also update their menu if the ciabatta is not vegan…

I love this place. The menu is clearly labeled and everything is delightful. The coffee is great. Grab it to go to the boardwalk.

Service was friendly. Food was very good. We ordered the Mālama smash (avocado toast) and the dragon fruit smoothie bowl. Very fresh. Reasonable prices. Will definitely come back when we are in Carolina Beach again.
