Great food but not automatically vegan

I’m so glad I stopped in for take out last night at La Jarochita. I have driven past a few times, but this was my first time there.

The restaurant has parking and is wheelchair accessible. It was clean and had a fun vibe. It was very busy during dinner service, both for take out and dining in, but the staff were attentive and friendly.

I ordered the vegan burrito, pico and chips, and guacamole and chips. Everything was fresh and tasty, with big portions for the price. The burrito is jammed packed with veggies, and the rice and black beans come on the side (rice and black beans were SO GOOD). The guacamole was perfect!

I’ll definitely be back!!

*UPDATE: Thanks to a helpful commenter here, I can help warn customers that the VEGAN burrito is in fact NOT vegan unless one specifically asks for no cheese on the beans. 👎 I had to lower my star review due to that unfortunately.

Pros: Yummy , Big portions for price , Fun staff

Cons: Bit of a long wait time but it was busy , VEGAN BURRITO CONTAINS CHEESE

you have to specify no cheese on the beans. the white stuff on the beans in your photo is unfortunately cheese. i’ve gone a few times and they always omit it when i ask. i’m not sure why they still automatically put it on a dish called “burrito vegano” but just a heads up for next time.

@victoria1024 thank you for confirming this, good looks! I was wondering about it because it just seemed too milky, and was going to ask them at my next visit. It is certainly confusing that it should be a special request.

Delicious food

It was very busy at the restaurant which must indicate that they've got something good and popular going on there.
We ordered vegan burritos and chips with guacamole and pico de gallo. Everything was very delicious. The burritos were filled with yummy vegetables, and there was a side with rice and black beans. Personally, I would've preferred if the rice and beans were put in the burrito. But apart from that it was very good. And not a lot of money for this filling meal. Would definitely go there again and recommend it to others.

Edit:
Thanks to an important comment here, we now know that the "vegano" is not vegan because it has cheese.

i commented this on the other review (looks like you two went together) but i’m adding it here to for whoever might be reading reviews and planning on going there!

(ps i agree the rice and beans should be in the burrito)

Thank you, victoria1024, that's info that's very good to know. "Vegano" should definitely not be in the name of this dish

Outstanding authentic Mexican food, great service

Needing a late dinner before leaving the beach for home, spouse and I were repeatedly frustrated by long waits or exorbitant prices at a half-dozen Happy Cow listings in the beach town. While on the bridge out of town, I found from other online sources La Jarochita in the nearby mainland town of Manahawkin. Now I'm glad it worked out that way, because this restaurant was a terrific find. The complimentary chips and moles (a caliente y picante black bean and an orange-colored sundried tomato concoction) were fresh and good. My burrito vegano, prepared with generous amounts of fresh and lightly cooked mushrooms, onions, peppers, squash and spinach, was one of the best burritos I've ever had. It came with a nicely prepared and tasty side salad, spicy black beans and spiced rice. The outdoor seating area has charm and our server couldn't have been more attentive and helpful, despite the late hour. She was very familiar with what went into all the dishes and accommodating to our dietary needs.

Pros: Really tasty vegan food with generous portions, Friendly and helpful service, Great value, outside the high-priced tourist area
