Portuguese cuisine turned vegan

It's refreshing to eat vegan food that doesn't attempt to be chic but simply tries to recreate Portuguese dishes in a plant based model.
I had the 'octopus' rice and my friend the francesinha. Both were very good, but I was especially impressed with the rice since good vegan alternatives to seafood are so hard to find. The pictures can't do it justice. The mushrooms that replaced the octopus were just the right texture.
The dessert was also good: the deconstructed 'cheesecake'. It felt strange at the first bite but then tasted better and better.
I will definitely come back!

Nice food

Food was good overall - the Bitoque (if i remember the spelling) was interesting but don’t think we would order that again, verging more on student food. The mediterranean salmon was really good. Dessert was the nata tart which was the best course and really tasty

Good food and service

The cheese sandwich was filling: bread, melted vegan cheese, mushrooms, tofu, topped in sauce, served with good fries. No room for dessert! I had a glass of vinho verde with my meal. I’ve also had the cauliflower wings (good and crispy) and the fabulous Oreo mousse - it’s so light! (Whipped.) A nicely priced Dish of the Day is offered on weekdays, as well as a combination deal of soup or salad, Dish of the Day and Oreo mousse for dessert.
Updating the following year, 2024: I had the lunch meal deal: drink, soup, main. Iced tea; the soup was black-bean purée poured around a knot of shredded cabbage/carrot; and the main was tofu, baby potatoes, spinach, red peppers/onions (good though a bit oily). I enjoyed the meal. Pleasant service.

Food was tasty

Our meal was tasty and it was well presented. However, based on previous reviews, we had higher expectations. Portions are small. Staff was nice

Creative options

After very few options in TimeOut Market, this place really satisfied me. Carpaccio and Pastel de Nata were so yummy!

Vegan Salmon 😀

The restaurant has a really nice ambience and we received a very friendly welcome. The menu offers a good selection of starters, main courses and desserts as well as drinks. I had pica pau as a starter and then the salmon. Both were very, very tasty.

Definitely Something Special

This name was always among the top recommendations as I was looking for food choices in Lisbon. The restaurant is up a flight of stairs and features a large and well lit interior with a play area for the kids. The menu is streamlined and Portugal focused. I had the Francesinha, which is a smothered sandwich, with basically all the starters. They were all great, and I had a great glass of vinho verde. Oh and the desserts were amazing too. Franchise out to Hong Kong- or at least Macau?

You NEED to eat here...

Loved the decor, the atmosphere and the service but the food is what makes this place 10/10. It was really exciting to try vegan versions of local and traditional Portuguese dishes and everything was absolutely delicious. My favourite was the croquette starter and the nata dessert which even came with nata flavoured ice cream (totally unique). I happily ate my way through three courses...twice in one day! An absolute must visit when in Lisbon. Honestly, some of the best vegan food I have ever had and all of it has been created and made with love. You don't want to miss this place!

Pros: Incredible food, Service with a smile , Relaxed atmosphere

Cons: ZERO

Fantastico

Ogni piatto curato e ricco di sapore, non mangio pesce da un po' di anni e la somiglianza con il sapore del salmone era impressionante! Davvero ottimo!

Just WOW.

One of the best vegan dining experiences we've ever had. The food and sauces were out of this world. The dish with the mustard sauce, we couldn't believe the flavor. Sweet and savory, it left us wanting more things to dip. Would leave six stars if I could. Obrigado!

Portuguese traditional food

I loved to find veganized traditional Portuguese food. They have the typical francesinha, bitoque, pica pau and many others!
I highly recommend it to try the typical food here. Super good and very cozy restaurant.

Number one for a reason

Really, really, really good food. Comforting dishes, good servings, friendly atmosphere...

Maybe it didn't feel very vegan? Like activist, it was more of a tourist place. But with dishes so good how can I not give it 5 stars?

Besides I am a tourist now, I have to get used to that.

Worth visiting

Delicious traditional Portuguese flavors, beautifully veganized. Nice presentation and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The staff were professional, friendly, and extremely helpful. The restaurant's seating area is located on the second floor, though I'm not certain if an elevator is available. Definitely recommend.

Tasty food

I really enjoyed the bitoque (steak and egg dish), comes with rice and chips, really tasty! We also tried the Mediterranean salmon which we didn’t love so much, the tofu salmon was personally not great texture for our taste. Desserts were beautiful, the Nutella cake is heavenly and the deconstructed cheesecake was very tasty too. Highly recommend.

best francesinha & bitoque!

I had never tried Portuguese food and I was very curious! kong is one of the most beautiful and delicious restaurants I've ever been to, the place is beautiful, the staff are very kind and super helpful and the food is fantastic! the price is excellent for the quality they offer and the beauty of the place. we tried the Francesinha and the bitoque, we liked them and they were cooked very well. Personally, Portuguese cuisine wasn't one of our favorites, but it's worth trying and I absolutely recommend this place!

Absolutely try the torte de nata with ice cream because it is fabulous!

Pros: everything was perfect

Wonderful

Best meal of our trip to Lisbon

Wonderful staff and the food was amazing. I had the ‘salmon’ which was made from tofu. It was incredible and the accompanying potato dish was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. The parfait dessert was rich but absolutely delicious

Would go back in a heartbeat

Vegan Portuguese meal in Kong

This place is a true gem, skillfully merging traditional Portuguese flavors with vegan cooking. Upon entering, you’re embraced by a warm and inviting atmosphere, with a lush green interior that serves as a perfect escape after a day spent exploring the sun-drenched streets of Lisbon. Kong’s convenient location is ideal for a post-sightseeing stop, just a four-minute walk from Cais do Sodré station and providing direct access to the Belém district. Great service/ get the starters

I had the Francesinha, which was their vegan version of a traditional Portuguese sandwich. It was fantastic! My friends both had the seitan steak and liked theirs less. But, the starters were a hit all around. I think we got bruschetta and croquettes. Wow. Yum!

Pros: Good food, Great staff, The starters!
