Vegan food is good but setting and staff not so

The food is delicious but tbh it's the only reason for going there..I've been there a few times now and the chairs and tables are uncomfortable and unhandy. You have to wait long to make your order while you have to wait in front of the counter. The staff is overall nice but not really social. Sometimes they just see me, look at me and then walk past me to clean something and just let me stand there for minutes. If they just at least said something like "i'll help you in just a minute".

Pros: Lots of vegan options, delicious vegan cakes

Cons: not really cheap, Weird setting, Staff is mwah...

Semi vegan bakery

Make sure you ask them which baked items are vegan because not all of them are.
Their chocolate coffee cake is just to die for.
Great selection of herbal tea that are unique as well.

Pros: Very tasty

Cons: Not all baked goods are vegan

Bit disappointing. Good vegan pancake though

This is often referred to as a vegan bakery, but it is not. There was even no vegan cake/pastry available when we visisted (only vegetarian quiche in the counter).
We had a pancake. Good although dense and quite expensive.

All in all: a bit disappointing. We had hoped to find more vegan options in a more relaxed and cleaner setting (very dirty windows, shabby toilet).

Not accessible.

Pros: vegan pancakes

Cons: few vegan options (no cake/pastry available), bit dirty and shabby, not accessible

Excellent !

Très bonne adresse. Un large choix pour le petit dej. Possibilité de prendre du lait végétal. Quelques choix vegans. Paiement à la commande. Les pancakes sont à tomber. Possibilité de rester travailler l’après midi. Prix trop élevés.

Pros: Pancakes , Spacieux , Cadre

Cons: Prix , Impossible de payer avec visa et MasterCard

Best pancakes I've ever had

We went here while exploring Maastricht for the first time, since we will be moving to the area. I think we'll become regulars on the weekends, the pancakes were ridiculously good. Best pancakes I've ever had, vegan or non-vegan.

I found this place on on HappyCow but did not look into the details since we just needed a quick lunch. When I saw "vegan bakery" I assumed it was all vegan - unfortunately, it is not. I tasted the cows milk in my iced coffee, so went back to the counter to quickly change my order from the vegetarian quiche to the vegan pancakes. They were really friendly and it was no problem at all to fix the confusion.

There is a nice little outdoor seating area in the shade, and the interior is lovely quickly as well.

Pros: Excellent pancakes, Friendly staff, Cozy interior

Cons: Not 100% vegan, though sign outside says 'vegan'

Confused

When this place opened up it was sold as a vegan cafe so am quite confused as to why you have to specify for vegan milks etc. and this means it is not so different from any other cafe. The vegan cakes are ok but very expensive, even though making vegan cakes is very cheap. But I guess that is also the Maastricht Mark-up, as well as the 'vegan' mark-up. I was really excited for them to open but am disappointed with what was delivered. I am also sure that the first time I visited we were served regular cow's milk as we were made to believe it was a vegan cafe and so did not even think to ask. I only found out that the place wasn't vegan when a friend started working there which I think is a little shady. The place is beautiful though and nice to enjoy a coffee, just remember to ask as this is no vegan haven!

Pros: Nice decor

Cons: Not vegan, Expensive

Delicious pancakes and coffee

We had to wait a while for our order to arrive but everything tasted great. Excellent coffee, pancakes and chocolate cake. Clearly they know how to make great vegan food so just wish they would go 100 percent vegan!

I LOVE THIS PLACE

It is my dream to ever create a place like this. Its an animal and environmental friendly cafe with amazing coffee (they actually manage to foam the almond milk decently) and lovely food. Tip: try the chai latte with almond milk. The pancakes are to die for and the sandwich is always good. The atmosphere is super cozy and home like. Its like eating, sitting, reading in my own living room, but better. I had a chat with the owners and they are very kind and created this place out of passion. If you go to Maastricht, you simply HAVE TO visit!

Pros: amazing food, very friendly staff, cozy and original decoration

Surprising lunch spot

Great decor, with recycled materials. The staff was really friendly in explaining the menu, not too elaborate but mostly vegan. We had a great hummus sandwich (delicious home made bread) and vegan pancakes. Accompanied by the best chai latte i've had in years. Good to have discovered this place, for future visits to this lovely city

Pros: in the city centre, but not too busy and cosy atmo

Nice cafe

Yesterday we went there (1.12.) as we went for a day-visit to Maastricht and chose it over the Loving hut based on reviews here at HappyCow (we are not Chinese food lovers). We were really happy to have a place like this to eat at - it is a nice cafe, filled with youngsters working on their laptops, with few food choices. We had a soup and sandwich - soup was nice and hot, sandwich was made with a great, fresh bun with a bit too little of content (hummus with a bit of salad). Overall it was okay.
Just make sure that you agree on definition of vegetarian - we are lacto vegetarians and waiter and cook presumed that we are ovo lacto vegetarians, so we almost ate eggs in the quiche which is an absolute no no for us.

Pros: It exists!! (otherwise we would starve), Generous portion of the soup we ate

Cons: A little bit too expensive

First time in Maastricht and best pancakes

Me and my partner went today, tried nearly everything on the menu and every single thing was delicious. The pancakes are to die for and we will be going back. Also, the staff are super friendly and the place has a chilled vibe. YES.

Pros: pancakes, pancakes, pancakes

Cons: not enough pancakes, portions could have been bigger, just cos we are fat vegans

Well flavored food & delicious unique cakes

Best vegan quiche I've tried so far, delicious hummus, and an interesting (and tasty) matcha cake. Service was lovely and the place really nicely decorated.

Tasty

We had lunch here on a busy day, so we had to wait pretty long, but the staff was friendly and later explained the situation (in a response). We had a sandwich with hummus and vegetables and it was qualitative good (everything was tasty), but it was mostly bread and we missed the greens.
We sat on the little, nice terrace and also the interior looked cosey.

Pros: Friendly staff, Cosey accoutrements

Cons: Lots of bread in comparison with the fillings

Hi Nele,
We are so sorry to hear that you had bigger expectations. It was literally the busiest day we ever had, and we were only with the two of us. We really tried our best!
Regarding to your comment about the lunch options I think you might have misunderstood the menu. Beside the sandwich of the day we also have a quiche, salads, a smoothie bowl, pancakes, soups, yoghurt with homemade granola and oatmeal with fruit. Maybe we did not communicate this clearly enough, for which we are sorry! We hope to see you again! :) :)

Hi,
We all have those chaotic days, so we must have come on the wrong moment ;)
Seems like we did misunderstand the options, we'll have to come back sometime to try your other dishes out.
Thank you for explaining the situation and I'll change it in my review.
Wish you lots of success in the future!

Love this place!

I was in Maastricht for 4 days, I've been there 3 times! For afternoon tea and breakfast.
The place has an awesome decoration, the people working there are so nice, the food is delicious. Good choice of vegan cakes. If you go there for breakfast you have to taste the banana-blueberry pancakes, BEST PANCAKES EVER!

Pros: raw options, friendly staff

good place for a coffee or snack

Nice atmosphere, enough options to choose from. I find it a great shame they still choose to serve cowmilk, if this changes it would be 5 star for me.

Pros: enough vegan options

Cons: to bad they profit from cows

Dont miss out on this!

I really enjoyed visiting KAFETHEA! Its a cozy vegan coffeebar with a wide range of homemade pastry (I also saw also raw and glutenfree options btw). The owners are young, full of energy and very friendly. The atmosphere is very comfy; it's like stepping into their living room. They also have some good breakfast and lunch options! I tried the blueberry pancakes with fruit and they were so good! I totally recommend this place!

Best vegan experience!

I was really surprised to find such a nice place in Maastricht. It's a vegan coffee bar that feels like a common cozy living room. All the cakes are vegan (I tried a raw vegan mocca cheesecake and it was super good) and they have several savory food options as well. I also had the blueberry pancakes and they were to die for. The owners are super friendly and they also have a little bakery corner in the back where I bought a big warm bread. If you ever visit Maastricht you really have to try this place!

Pros: vegan cakes !!!!, super cozy atmosphere , caring staff

Cozy Corner Café

A comfortable place that serves coffee, tea, lemonade, cakes and pastries, but also pancakes and soup. The staff is friendly and informed about their products and vegan customer requests. I had sweet potatoe pancakes that were delicious, but quite pricy for the amount. I would return, but settle for a cake or hope they made the pancakes bigger and take those again.

Walhalla for vegans

A very cute coffee bar with only vegan options! It's original and delicious. They have plenty of savory options too, like vegan quiche, wraps, sandwiches, soup and pancakes. If you're a sweet tooth you're lucky as well. They bake (raw) vegan cakes every day. What I also really liked is that they did not use any leather in the business. Go visit!

Pros: No leather used in decorating the place, Homemade vegan cakes, In heart of the city center
