10/10 so much flavour and perfect execution

I came across the vegan mazesoba on DoorDash. It was 10/10. So much flavour and just delicious. I think this is the most flavour I’ve had in a Japanese vegan dish ever.

Lovely restaurant, limited vegan options

The restaurant has a traditional vibe reminiscent of Japanese ramen bars with a modern twist: wooden panels, stools by the kitchen for folks coming in alone, and a neon lit lucky cat on the wall. Iiko Mazesoba’s ramen differs in that there’s no broth in their mains, instead they recommend a swirl of konbu vinegar and chilli oil, then you mix vigourously for maximum flavour.

There’s only one vegan option as part of their mains: the vegan ramen. Topped with fried shallots, grilled tomato, corn, seaweed, mushrooms, bamboo and spring onions, on a bed of homemade noodles (without egg! Yay!). The ramen is very rich, noodles are thick and chewy, and there’s crunch from the various toppings. Though I wasn’t quite sure what to expect with the flavour. Some ramens are either a particular flavour, like miso or soy based; or either creamy, spicy or a clear soup- and this one left me wondering. I still enjoyed it my experience there, I just wish there were other vegan friendly sides.

Get there early because by 6pm, there wasn’t enough seating inside and outside; or considering booking a reservation online. Also the payment area is in a high traffic location, so I had staff and customers dodging in between. It would be safer if there was a clear location to pay without me knocking over someone’s meal or getting in the way of the servers. Overall, it was a lovely place to try for the first time!

Pros: Cute, modern Japanese atmosphere, Lovely and helpful staff

Cons: Not many vegan options, Small restaurant with limited space
